The time has once again arrived for another WoV Playoff Picks Game!
As I have done every single year, I am again changing the Rules. It is actually very difficult to create a set of Rules for this game because I wish for it to give enough of an advantage to players who pick well early going into the Super Bowl, but I also don't want people to have virtually no chance to win after one or two weeks.
Anyway, I think I have found a balance for this, so the Rules are as follows:
How to Play
1.) Anyone is welcome to play, but only participants in the 2015 WoV Picks Game will receive PM reminders on Thursday night to make their Picks. After the Wild Card weekend, all Members who participated in Wild Card weekend will receive reminders. To play, simply PM your Picks to me before the deadline.
2.) There will be one winner and that winner shall receive a prize of $25.
3.) I will be playing and defending the $25.
Making Picks
1.) The Lines for each week will be posted Wednesday Evening before the weekend of the games being played. For each game, there shall be a Point Spread and an Over/Under, every player MUST make picks for the Point Spreads and Over/Unders of every game, there are no Confidence Picks.
2.) The winner will be determined by whoever scores the most points, how points are scored is as follows:
Wild Card + Divisional Playoffs: 1 Point for Every Correct Pick (8 Points Per Week)
Conference Championships: 2 Points for Every Correct Pick (8 Possible Points)
Super Bowl: 4 Points for Every Correct Pick (8 Points Possible)
Furthermore, for the Super Bowl, there will be ten questions based on Props that will be worth one point each. Thus, a perfect score will be 42 Points.
3.) Tie-Breaker
-When making your first set of Picks, you must send me your prediction for the Super Bowl Match-Up and final score. In the event that either or both teams do not make it to the Super Bowl, if that is the case for both players, it will come down to how much those teams scored in the playoffs.
Making Picks
1.) Lines will be posted each Wednesday before the games, Picks must be made BEFORE 23:59 EST on the Friday night before the games. Reminders will be sent at or around 23:59 EST the day after the Lines are posted.
2.) Please Format your Picks the following way:
A.) No Line Breaks
B.) For Spread picks, simply put the team nickname and the spread. (Ex: Bengals +5)
C.) For Over/Unders, simply put the team nickname for EITHER team, and the Over or Under amount. (Ex: Bengals OVER 25)
So, a full set of picks might appear:
Patriots -15
Patriots OVER 52
Jaguars +12
Jaguars UNDER 42
Jets +4-Confidence
Except it wouldn't because the Jets/Jags aren't in the Playoffs.
Hopefully everyone has fun with this game, good luck to all!

It also wouldn't, because there aren't any Confidence picks.
Thanks for doing this, sounds like fun!
Due to the new format, and your defense of the prize, I am curious how you will "avert your eyes" when it is time to make the Super Bowl predictions? Will you send your predictions to a non-participant before publishing the questions? Perhaps a hermetically sealed pickle jar on the porch of Funk and Wagnall's?
Quote: AyecarumbaThanks for sponsoring and running this contest again Mission. I hope to repeat my championship run from last year.

Basically the same as the regular Picks Game, I send all of my stuff to BBB prior to opening any PM's from anyone else.
Actually, here you are:
Pittsburgh: 27 Arizona: 17

Hehe, actually, I was thinking more about the "prop" questions that will make up half the scoring. Will one of the questions be, "Safety?"

Quote: GWAEWholly F, what a game that was.
Couldn't have said it any better. Even after the Bengals took the lead, I still thought there was a good chance the might self-destruct, and sure enough.
Please let me know if you see any errors.
Quote: GWAEHow about that, all road winners. Has this happened before? I assume it has.
It probably has but I doubt there was ever four home underdogs in the first week of playoffs.
And this is one week I wish I had a bookie!
Quote: JohnzimboTowards the end of the last game they said it had never happened before.
And this is one week I wish I had a bookie!
Nice week!
Quote: Mission146Great week, JohnZimbo, and thanks for compiling the results and the excellent spreadsheet, EdCollins, I didn't even know you were doing that!
I was bored. I wanted to see the results.
(It's what I do. I'm an internal auditor. I work with spreadsheets and numbers all day long.)
I figured you wouldn't mind.

ewww you are one of those people that we would all cringe at as we see you walking to the front door. <flashback>
Quote: GWAEI am surprised to see so many NE super bowl picks. I think they have a great chance of getting upset by either pgh, den, or chiefs.
I don't follow NFL, except Super Bowl. Last time I read about NE they were 10 and 0. Don't remember seeing anything about undefeated team, so I can safely assume NE lost 1 of those last 6 games ? ? ?
Yes. They started 10-0 and then they lost 4 out of their next 6 games, to finish the season at 12-4. They are the #2 Seed in the AFCQuote: runspotwalkI don't follow NFL, except Super Bowl. I'll let the first best of three votes among active players decide whether or not we accept these Picks.
I vote yes. (I think it's too early to start looking at the picks of others, and then attempting to pick your games based upon those picks.)Quote: Mission146

Even last place still has a decent shot with all the superbowl prop bets. For those who want to bet against me.... I'll be taking the Patriots and Panthers....
Yep, that was Mission's goal. He wanted players to still have a chance after one or two weeks.Quote: SOOPOOEven last place still has a decent shot with all the superbowl prop bets.

Absolutely, I think I'm happy with this format. It's possible that 10-50% of the field will be all but done after this week, but I can live with that.

You are amazing SOOPOO. The mean total after two weeks is 9, which you nailed. I am worried because I also have the Pats and the Cats in the Big Game...hehe
