Interesting. I think the ball placement on the hashmarks is purposely done in order to speed the game up. Bringing the chains out wastes a lot of time, especially since the first thing the center does when they line up, is move the ball.

I've always thought the chain measurements are so dumb. The ball will be clearly on the edge of the hash mark, yet the chains are 4-6 inches beyond, and they still need to run out. On top of that, how straight is the line they ran the chains out on?
