Something I notice more than anything this time of year is how different spreads in the lines are in MLB. The difference in odds between favorites and dogs expands quite a bit by mid to late September. For example today there are three games involving favorites with betting lines at -180 or more vs. dogs at +200 or more in Las Vegas books: ATL@NYM, MLW@CHC, and CIN@ST. Yesterday, a light schedule due to the usual Monday travel day, there was one. on Sunday there were two, and Saturday there were also two. Before September these only occur in an average of less than one game a day or a little more than about one every other day, but as we get into late September these kinds of lines commonly show up at the rate of more than two a day. There are even lines being hung on some dogs at > +300 in the straight up W/L moneyline, which almost never happens in MLB at all earlier in the season, the nature of baseball being what it is. I don't find this late season change to be an aberration unique to this year at all, and it isn't hard to think of some fundamental reasons this may occur near the end of regular season play.
Since I mostly stop on my MLB wagering much earlier than this, it doesn't affect anything I do, and I don't have any particular suggestion to make or conclusion to draw about betting them or not. It is just an observation on how things shift. You know this time of year I prefer to go spend my time in a church, to pray for the soul of my future book wagers. No prize for guessing the cathedral:

I've always gotten crushed in my MLB betting. But on 8/26 I noticed and posted that both for this year and last your other dogs (under 130) were winning. Now, this season is almost over and that is confirmed. On 8/26 I started paper betting those little dogs picking at most 1 bet per day and I went 18-17 earning $271 based on $100 bets for a 7.7% ROI. I'm not a naive person so I know that's not enough bets to claim that I have an edge but nonetheless it was surprising and encouraging. You, on the other hand, because of the long season and because you made so many bets must have made at least 500 bets in this category. This category outperformed every other category in your betting by a large margin. At the risk of being contradicted or made to look stupid by some of the math geniuses on this site I would have to say that because of your relatively large no. of bets that you made that there is a high probability that your results from the other dogs is statistically significant. I'm going to try it on the upcoming NHL season where I also have always gotten crushed. NHL and MLB betting have the not insignificant benefit of reduced edge because you can find a dime line pretty easily. I would surmise that the reason for this is that baseball being so very unpredictable that when the books post a small favorite such as -130 indicating they believe that this favorite has a small advantage, many times they are wrong and the favorite has no advantage so the bettor has a chance to break even on his picks and come out ahead on the over +100. I'm thinking that you may be disappointed in your overall results but I think what you did was educational and useful and perhaps important. I would like to thank you for that.
