I voted for $10-$20 and $20+, but I probably wouldn't go higher than $25.

I voted 20+: I thought the 25 for the Handicapper contest was just right, would go a bit higher if asked.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

I voted for 10-20. 20 is the right price. You'll get a good number of people involved and it will pay nicely.

Contest sounds fun and I think M146 has it right on the entry price range.

These are fun I wouldn't definitely do one. $25 is a good number. With the way I've been picking this year the forum should welcome my donation.

I would think about it for small stakes, but this format is not as fun because folks could be one and done for entire season. It is more fun if everyone has a chance to compete for several weeks. Typically, these would be over by now, (especially with outcomes like the Cowboys upset last weekend). Pre-payment is a must.
Other details:
Straight up or ATS?
is there a tie-breaker? Would the prize be equally split by everyone in the last round if there are no survivors, or only those with the smallest margin of defeat, or ???
What if a game ends in a tie? Do both sides lose or win?
With no "skip" weeks, players will need to consider their ability to get to the internet each week.

Yep, all the rules would have to be listed beforehand.
Normally, these survivor-type pools that I've been familiar with (also know as Last Man Standing) don't use the spread... games are picked straight up. The one rule that seems to be standard is that one you pick a team, you aren't allowed to pick that team again, for the rest of the year.
And yes, you could very easily be One and Done... which actually helps to make it VERY exciting each week, for everyone that is still alive. You're right.. I'll bet Washington's victory over Dallas on Monday knocked out a lot of players who were still alive! I've heard of pools that finish early enough in the season there is time again for a second such pool!
Yea, again, most pools that I know of consider a tie game a loss for both sides. We could take a vote. I wouldn't care myself, either way.
In the event of a person not entering, one option I've seen is that they are then automatically given the visiting team on Monday Night, for example. If it's their bad luck that they've already chosen that team, then they are out. I do think this is a non-issue, since nowadays it's not hard to get internet access each week, even when on vacation and out of town. Also, if a player knew ahead of time they weren't going to have internet access the following week, there is no reason why they couldn't submit the team they wanted that week to the host a week early.
Yes, I wouldn't play in a contest such as this without prepayment from all players.
One big advantage for the host for this type of pools is that the pool is VERY easy to manage. One simple, spreadsheet grid will handle the entire season.
I've heard and read of pools such as these that attract hundreds of players, resulting in a very nice prize for the eventual winner.

Runyourpool.com is perfect for running these and costs nothing. They manage the picks each week and even show what teams you still have available.

It seems to me the OP does not know much about Survivor pool. But I will join anyways. I suggest $10 for casual players and $50 for serious players. Entry fees go to Michael for safe keeping. Maybe Michael can get some sponsors to donate some prizes too. I mean prizes on top of all entry fees.

For the pools I have entered. You dont summit your pick, you are out. You pick the team twice , you are out. No if, no but and no maybe.

That makes absolutely no sense. That's the entire basis for your statement?
Just because the pools you've entered may have a different rule or two than the pools I've entered, that doesn't in any way indicate that I "don't know much about Survivor pools."
As proof, here's one link to such a pool WITH just such a rule:
http://www.survivorfootballpool.net/poolrules.asp
Missed weeks will automatically default to the Monday night game visitor team. If you have already selected that team, it will count as a loss. If there is no Monday night game, it will count as a loss. If there are two Monday night games, the 1st game's visitor will be selected. Make sure you submit your picks each week.
Maybe you're the one who doesn't know much about Survivor pools. Have you considered that?

Okay, okay, you guys both know about Survivor Pools, let's get back to how much should be bet, I still like $25.
Another thing you could always do for people who want more (or less) action, and also that might theoretically keep it going longer is to have three different betting levels. For instance, if you had $10, $25 and $50, then all who bet at all would qualify for $10 * x players, the players who bet $25 or more would be competing with $10 of it against all players with $15 in a, "Side Pot," for all who bet $25 or $50 while the $50 bettors would have $25 in a, "Side Pot," to be played just among the people who bet $50.
That way, let's say you had two $50 bettors left who lose in the same week, but one (or more) $10-$25 bettors survive that week, the $50 bettors would just continue to play each other as though they hadn't lost eligible only for the applicable, "Side Pot."
