Can I bet $1 on California Chrome to win just to have the ticket as a souvenir (if CC wins it)?

Most places have a $2 minimum unless you are betting multiple exotics (exacta, trifecta, superfecta, pick X, etc.) at once.

WTF? :) It's just to have a souvenir of "This is a betting ticket on a Triple Crown winner."

Considering that the HA on win bets is usually somewhere around 16% (it depends on the state), I don't think enough is going to be bet on California Chrome (even if somebody does decide to buy something like 1 million $2 win tickets to sell as souvenirs just in case, although that's a risky $2 million bet) to make betting on the other horses +EV.

It's a dumb idea if you can't cash the tickets and keep them. You should be able at some point to buy them for less than face value. I would think the only tickets truly desirable would come from Belmont anyways.

Another wtf? You buy a $2 souvenir based on its expected resale value?

Only if you buy a million of them.

Then again, reportedly, $2 Belmont win tickets on Affirmed are getting $150 on eBay. I wonder if anybody has a set of $2 place tickets from the three Triple Crown races on Alydar...

Um, baseball cards worth thousands were originally sold in 5 cent packages.

If CC wins and you have this winning ticket, how long before the next Triple Crown threat comes along? Might be a few years, might be a few decades. The longer it is, the more likely you are to be able to sell your souvenir for a profit.

Worst case, you've got a $2 piece of history that could potentially be framed and make a nice conversation piece for years to come.

Coincidentally, the CPI calculator I just checked reported that 2$ in 1978 has the purchasing power of 150$ today.
