Please look at the results and pay tables from Balmoral Race 13 tonight. I like to believe harness racing isn't fixed like it's made out to be, but races like this is what makes me believe other wise. Wonder who cashed all those 4 and 5 digit tickets?

Their website only has twelve races showing right now, and what would I be looking for?
I've only bet on one horse race in my entire life in which Forward Bliss got me 73.5:1, and I got my original $2 back, so $149. I lost $10, though, because I put $2 on six different horses (out of nine) to win. I think that it might be fun to go to the Downs with someone and do it and would definitely enjoy meeting up with someone such as FinsRule, yourself, EvenBob (or others) at the track one day and see how we do. The only thing that would suck is that I'd be incredibly likely to lose my perfect record picking ponies. It's only 1-0, I'll admit, but being able to say you picked races perfectly at such a huge percentage profit is hilarious!

The heavy favorite finished 5th while the longest shots all hit the board 1-4. The Win/Place/Show bets all paid double digits. The exotics all 4 and the Super was even over $10,000. It was as insane of a race as I'd ever seen. I watched a grainy simulcast on a laptop, but I guarantee the favorite had the brakes on coming around the final turn.

The longest shot horse also won the third race today with the fifth longest shot coming in second. The Win/Place/Show bets on the winner all paid double digits and the Place bet on second place paid in double digits. The favorite came in third, but was running 1st-2nd throughout the majority of the race if I understand what I am reading.
The horse with the second longest odds won the fourth race, but only win/place were in double digits. The favorite and second favorite finished second and third, in that order.
That's three races where very long shots won out of thirteen, is that unusual?

I used to wager a lot on harness racing. Used to travel all over Ontario and the United States to see the big races. USED TOO.....don't anymore because of how bad the game became.
Before I searched for the results of the race you mentioned I said to myself I bet M Oosting was the driver on the favorite.....and I was correct

thats the replay....after watching it I suggest that Mike Oosting got a real bad suffle in there .... and with the back half coming in 56.4 he had no shot when he did get outside of the dead horses in front of him
the payoffs were not out of line with the prices the horses paid

I agree that they weren't out of line, and you see results like this sometimes. These harness tracks don't have 1000s of expert handicappers all pouring over the PPs. Sometimes the pools barely make it into $1000 territory. I've put a $25 win bet on a trotter and brought the odds from 3/1 to 6/5! So basically anything can happen, and occasionally you see this on the board. Plus the third runner was the 3rd ML choice, so it wasn't even super bombs away that I see almost every day.
Heck, a 99+ to 1 came in at Aqueduct yesterday!

I watch Balmoral all the time. That race was not unusual whatsoever. The horse was 7-2 morning line, so it wasn't like a world beater. These harness races have a way of breaking down if there is a lot of action early, and I think that's what happened.

If I'm not mistaken, Fleastiff's point is that the track is not going to see too much betting action, so as a necessary result, it really doesn't take all that much to swing the Odds.

That's awesome, I remember some harness races that weren't too far from that clip at a long closed harness track in Illinois, Quad-City Downs back in the 80's.

I will have to go to public library next time in Denver and check archives SOOPOO can't believe races were being fixed at Centennial Harness track for $100 or less.
Shed not for her
the bitter tear
Nor give the heart
to vain regret
Tis but the casket
that lies here,
The gem that filled it
Sparkles yet
