I'm in Iowa where they don't have sports books. I want to do some sports betting during the upcoming football season. Obviously, I'm not flying out to Vegas every week, and don't want to risk getting my legs broken--hell I don't think they even have bookies here. So I figure I would have to go on an internet sportsbook. Any internet ones out of Vegas? What are the laws regarding this? Or were sportsbooks included in the whole Feds taking these sites down?

Also, what are some good websites to find results for previous games? Like all results in NFL and College for 2011 season. Not just who won, but what the Moneyline and Point Spread's were.

I don't trust anything online anymore. Your best bet would be to find a bookie. Basically they run their operation online so it's very easy to see lines and make bets. Then every week you mail him a check if you're down, and if you're up you can carry it over or request a check

I would avoid any offshore sportsbook- too much hassle transferring money. They are too slow to pay.
Find a bookie- ask around. Most local bookies have websites for wagering. The money is still paid and collected in person. It's great!

Heh heh, that was good.
Seriously, somebody is taking action. You will have to ask around and ask correctly. I never found a local bookie but didn't totally try. Pay attention to who around you is talking about betting and casually ask how they got into it.
A word of warning, you need to remember how this world operates. If you find somene who knows a bookie the only way the bookie will take your acction is if that person "vouches" for you. This can mean different things at different times and places, but in his world if they vouch for you and you do not pay, then THEY may have to make good. At some point the bookie will be comfortable with you and you will be on your own, but in the beginning do not take this lightly.
And unlike Vegas, bookies rarely require you to hand money over a counter to make the bet. If you do not have the "green money" in hand, do not make the bet. Late-fees run 5-20% A WEEK. To get the feel for how that world works I would watch "Vig" and "Rounders." Read (not watch) "Donnie Brasco." Book tells things the movie does not. Perhaps others here can add to a reading/viewing list.

Back east, when I would try to find a new bookie, I would show my "willingness" to pay by windowing him a grand or two. Then we would take it out of that for a month or two, either way, then would be on "credit". And generally, any "crazy" bet (one that was well over my normal plays), I would again just give the cash up front. Always worked for me....
