That's just one example. Beyond general beyond RTP discussion (though I have a hunch on that) the way they play just kinda sucks, yanno? Usually a bunch of little gimmicky features that pay 5x your bet, consistently crap payouts on line pays, lots of "WOOOO DING DING DING"isms for winning double your bet, etc.
I didn't used to think this way! Even back in 2017-2018 there were new games that felt fresh but still had a certain core manner of play: you can reasonably expect a sea of jack shit followed by random bursts of the machine becoming your personal ATM.
Now they're like, cartoonish, by and large. I don't feel like I can win! Suspiciously large and flashy and I have yet to find one I've enjoyed much at all in the few times I do play slots these days. I'm sad my favorite casino in lil old Jackpot, NV got rid of their full pay pick em poker machines with coin-op mechanism, but at least they still have a good selection of classics that are being rampantly replaced with this latest breed of slot machine.
I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has found a newer slot (B&M, that is: online slots are a different beast) that they have enjoyed because I just didn't jive with any of 'em on my last trip. I'll take an Aristocrat Reel Power with that sweet sweet feature bell and a 00s-technology monitor anyday.

There's this new genre where there's three colored things with matching symbols, but when you get a symbol, it's just random chance whether you trigger the feature.

Most of the games have shifted to perceived persistence and it’s already burning out most slot players. The new mo mummy has tanked along with most of the newer perceived fake persistence games. Fake pots, firecrackers and other deceptive gimmicks.
They will end up bringing back more true persistence which would be great for AP’s and normal players alike. No one likes being scammed. Especially on slots where you’re already being scammed.
it's all about the big wins and more bells/whistles over the previous version.
ie; huff & puff
then more huff puff, then even more huff puff
each one pays less in regular line pays.
and the latest one even has low pays on regular bonuses.
you have to hit the 2nd level bonus for the big payout.
yet ploppies play it over the previous version that's a few feet over.
(but the huff puff mansions version with different game mechanics is not played that much at my casino)
yes, there will be a point where ploppies will stop playing a newest version because it's too frustrating.
and they want instant gratification of sitting there through, say, 5 regular bonuses and 2 super bonuses to get the 3rd level bonus.
And there's a chance the 3rd level bonus will blank out.

I noticed this too. On one of the newer games, the Machine said," EPIC WIN," and a crowd of about FIFTEEN people stood behind the Player to see. The "EPIC WIN was about about 27.00 on an .88 bet. About 30 times his bet and THAT enticed a crowd to stand behind him. The crowd had a look of,"That's actually not that big of a win and dispersed when they saw that he ONLY won about 30 times his bet..I thought something like," "Eventually, the machines blaring,"EPIC WIN," are going to make a player become a target. 😱😳
The only recent slot that got me interested was Cashman Bingo.
Quote: ChumpChangeI figure you've got to have 300 spins worth of session money to start with on a machine. Choose your denom, lines and multiplier accordingly. One cent with 50 lines and a 2X multiplier times 300 spins equals a $300 buy-in.

Played something at $3.75/spin.
lost $2500 :(
-667x bet :(
Never got higher than 40% return over 1k spins
I'm convinced certain games just don't! Online, for instance, Thunderkick has one called Cosmic Voyager. I've poured an embarrassing amount of money into that thing and am reasonably sure my overall returns are still less than 25%. It's one of those games where it just doesn't feel like you can win, which makes it all the more frustrating.
I need to remember: if a game starts pissing you off, cash out, say goodbye to that game until time has healed the wounds, and get a soda (or something hard if your liver can still hang).
