Anyone can use a VPN and pick where they want their IP to originate from. There's enough clever people who can change there persona and writing style, hell they probably get into character.
I wouldn't doubt we have a few long time members who have more than one personality on here and post regularly as 2 different people.
I have my suspicions about a few, however it's really not an issue because they actually contribute.
You can get a sense of what you may call greenness.

FYI Just because it resulted in a reversal doesn't mean they weren't sock-puppets.
I realize some proof is needed to ban, however I seem to remember a few people embracing and welcoming obvious socks and allowing them to give advice.
There's one person whom I'm aware of that got caught up in all of that, however I'm not aware of him ever getting banned. (Ill let you figure out who I'm talking about on your own)
