Five of a kind with crown can win one of three progressives, minor, major and grand. Different base games have different major starting points, but are capped at $1000 on penny and $2000 on 2c. My gut says all are capped, but have only seen or heard of the major reaching the limit. Naturally, none of these relevant facts are listed anywhere on the machine. I've won the minor minimum bet with beginner's luck but nothing else in limited play of maybe 2000 spins. What do you know?

I've seen a minor on a 2c jackpot reel power machine which starts at $200 reach $1,300+. So if the minor is capped, it's above that point.
What is the point of capping the minor and major jackpots on a progressive?

Why, to keep those lowlife APs from stealing the jackpots from our valued chumps !
Shed not for her
the bitter tear
Nor give the heart
to vain regret
Tis but the casket
that lies here,
The gem that filled it
Sparkles yet

There are multiple reasons for this.
Some casinos believe a machine will get the same amount of play when a jackpot reaches a specified number as it would if the jackpot is higher. Simply, just add more profit for casino.
Another reason is to fund future jackpots so when the jackpot is hit, it won't necessarily return to the original reset amount. It will be higher. When I worked on some wide area progressive systems, we would set different jackpot levels which would correspond to different meter increments for both the current and future jackpots. One of them I worked on many years ago we started the main jackpot at $1 million with a 2.5% meter increment. As the jackpot rose to $3 million we would increment the primary meter 2% and the hidden reset meter at 0.5%. When the jackpot got to $5 million we set the meter increment to 1.5% and 1.0% for the hidden.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.

Minor was $1440 at Rivers. Won't be surprised if it does get capped at $2000. Also would not be surprised if a disadvantage at any bet. Each game definitely has it's own starting point for majors. The Jade Mountain starts at $675 penny(?guess) and $1300 2c(fact).
