This is a complex game to analyze. The payoffs on 5 same colored cards and on 5 picture cards are unusual, and the requirement that the player's hand must beat the dealer in order to get a payout will have an effect on going after "5 same colored cards." The "Bet 1 additional unit" in order to draw a 6th card without discarding anything is also a complicated rule to analyze.

OP may very well be right about the advantages of playing the 2nd and third hand. You will see anywhere from 5-9 cards per hand. In the extremum, you could see up to 18 cards before playing the 3rd hand - that is over 1/3 of the deck. That's pretty good penetration.

Are people missing the fact that this is online?

I'm not sure what what kind of percentage someone could achieve using a computer perfect strategy seeing all them cards, but it sounds interesting.

Is this a live version of the game?

I have no doubt he has though about the risks vs rewards when dealing with an online casino.

They have Lunar Poker at the SkyCity Auckland casino.
It's not whether you win or lose; it's whether or not you had a good bet.

Game was found Several/plenty of places in us up until a couple years ago. Places that I saw it last it was modified in a fashion to make it uninteresting if you want to win. Haven't personally played it.

They had lunar poker at Hollywood Casino St. Louis. Nobody ever played it, and it wound up getting replaced by HCF a several months ago.

As far as I know all of the Lunar games in the US were replaced with the version that has a mandatory side bet.

That side bet basically eliminates the edge from player collusion. I blame Stephen for posting so much about it! :P

To my knowledge, the biggest problem with Lunar Poker in the US is that it didn't really see a lot of play. In other countries the max bets are much bigger, the scrutiny for a long time was close to zero, and certain conditions were very favorable for Russian teams to smash away. In many of those countries now a Russian passport is worse than wearing a MIT blackjack team hat.
