If you win the Ghana lottery, you would have enough money to invest in the Nigerian guy who needs to get money out of the country.

On a more serious note, in Mexico there's a scam where someone (who's probably in jail at the time) calls to say you've won a car and/or other big prizes. All you need to do to claim your prize is buy some prepaid phone cards and read the numbers to someone else over the phone. Now, when the scam was new, and the Treasury was running a raffle among credit card users, I can believe people falling for it. Now, not so much. The raffle was a failure and no longer exists. And who asks you to hand over the codes from phone cards??

It's gotten so bad that when I get an interesting offer from the bank by email, I go to the nearest branch and ask them about it.

Tell him you'll help him. But first he needs to send you $2,500. Then you'll send him $100,000 and the lotto instructions.......

Wizard, my friend, this is your opportunity to strike gold in Ghana, and here's how:

Once you have a large group of players soliciting your help send half of them a forecast that the last digit will be odd, and send half of them a forecast that the last digit will be even. Tell them you are only giving this little "tidbit" to see how sincere they are about honoring your wisdom.

After this lottery drawing, repeat the process with the group that had the winning forecast and to half of them send "odd" and to half of them send "even."

Repeat for the next lottery drawing.

After four or five drawings you'll have a couple of guys figuring you can't miss and then you hit them up for $1,000 for all of the numbers.

Alan is using the first rule of a paid sports "Handicapper". Give one group one side and the rest the other side of a game and tell them they only owe after they win. Split the group and continue until you get your own TV Show.

I know a scumbag who got rich in the 50's touting stocks across the country via telegrams. Starting with 128 and working down to 4, he would have given them 5 stocks that went up. Now send me money for #6. Sometimes it was buy x number of shares for me.

there was an Alfred Hitchcock episode that had this plot, dividing the suckers in half each prediction ...

the show ended with the heavy irony that the guy who kept warning the other guy 'not to believe it' saw him go on to retire in the Bahamas or somesuch with the heavy betting he did on boxing matches and all kinds of things

Actually, it's one of the great, classic sports betting scams. Here's how it works:

The scammer gets a list of ten thousand sports bettors and each week picks one game and to half the list says Team A will win, and to the other half Team B will win.

Week 2. There are now 5-thousand "winners" and for the second game, half are told it's Team A and half are told it's Team B.

Week 3. The scammer now has 2,500 believers.

Week 4. 1,250 believers.

Week 5. 625 believers.

Week 6. 312 believers

Week 7. 156 believers who are saying "this guy is great. He is 7 for 7 he knows his stuff!!

Week 8. 78 believers are now true believers. "This is an unbelievable record. This guy will make me a fortune!!"

Week 9. 39 believers who can't wait to get the latest "pick."

Week 10. Dear Friend (the remaining 19): For the past 9 weeks I sent you free of charge my weekly pick in major sports and I hope you profitted from my information. I would like to continue giving you my weekly picks that will include the Horses vs the Donkeys championship game, and the Spiders vs the Caterpillars playoff game. But for these big contests, that bettors from around the world will be watching and wagering big money on, I have to charge you a fee. You have seen my expert results pay off 9 weeks in a row. So please send me $5,000 now -- in fact wire it right now to this account xxxxxx -- so you will have my picks in time to place your bets.

19 X $5,000 = $95,000 for ten weeks of work, postage, printing, and stationery.

Oh, is $5,000 a good price? No, let's make it $6,995 per sucker for a total of $132,905.

Next time, I'll tell you how to create your own Bahamian Bank.

From what I have been told about real Africans from people who would know, even the educated with jobs demanding that education would very likely be of the type to believe the Wizard is a real Wizard , without even skipping a beat.
