I'm new to the forum but have lurked for a good while. I love craps and when on cruises or in Vegas, play it a lot. I'm a recreational gambler that loves statistics and math based play.

I've come to this site to see how to elevate my "game" if you will. When I first started playing, I played 3 pt Molly exclusively. After a couple of trips of getting killed, I have tried other things (most recently playing a progression strategy using the 6 and 8). I know that players can't beat craps, but, I would imagine most of this forum does "ok" playing, or, you wouldn't still play craps.

I've kinda discerned that the forum is essentially split between the low house edge math guys that play pass/don't with max odds as their only play and the higher house edge guys that look for big wins but experience a lot more volatility.

It makes it very confusing to follow, especially with the sniping back and forth between the two sides at times lol.

So, I would be curious to hear from board members an answer to the following scenario...

If you have a trip bankroll of $2500 and a session bankroll of up to $300, on a 3 day trip to Vegas, what strategy would you use to play craps? Some important considerations: 1) Would like to have a little longer play sessions at the table (say 2 hours), 2) Would like the chance to have a big win vs grinding out small wins, 3) Would like to have the opportunity for some comps (MLife member) but it isn't a primary driver of my trip.

I'm not looking for advice but some insight on how some of you would play if this was you. I'm heading to Vegas next month and this is my expected bankroll and session amounts and would like to have a chance to do some damage while still enjoying my time if that doesn't happen. Thanks!

Hydration is key.

Beyond that, you should not expect many comps playing craps at that level.

My best advice is play conservatively on the pass line/odds and try to make your BR last as long as possible.

I'll assume you can find $10 to $15 tables and don't have to play at $25+ ... That's not a huge trip payroll, but I'd say you could play Craps. I say that because Craps is actually a bad choice with much less than that for payroll. However $300 for a session payroll is small I think. I'd bring at least $600 for each session. Now, if you protest "I'd hate to lose that much" then you are deluding yourself that $2500 is really your bankroll, that has to be something you are willing to lose or it isn't your real bankroll.

Some important considerations: 1) Would like to have a little longer play sessions at the table (say 2 hours)

Bring $600 for each session and limit the amount you have on the table at any time to no more than $50.

2) Would like the chance to have a big win vs grinding out small wins

This is in conflict with goal #1, seems to me

3) Would like to have the opportunity for some comps (MLife member) but it isn't a primary driver of my trip.

I haven't found Craps played intelligently to be good for comps.

If it was me I'd stick to the goal of staying power at the table, betting pass line with odds and maybe one come bet with odds. If it was me. If shooters were making their points consistently*, I'd increase the odds portion of my bets if I could, or make more come bets if I couldn't. If it was me.

*actually you can only say the table *was* hot. You can't say the table *is* or *will be* hot. However, speculation that it will continue to be hot or not is a source entertainment for me. YMMV

I appreciate the "if it was me" feedback. Exactly what I'm looking for, how you would do it if you had the above.

So you would come to a $10 table with $600 and just play the pass line with odds (maybe expand if you're winning to come bets)? That seems like a large amount to take to the table for that strategy. Is that to minimize risk of ruin or to maximize "staying power"? I thought I read somewhere here that session amount should be approximately 20 times bet amount.

OG by session bankroll is always 300. If he goes to a $5 table and plays conservatively then he would be fine. I play 5 plus 3x odds and 3 come bets. If I have an off and on come bet then Inup my odds bet by 1 unit each win until max.

When I drop below 200 I do 2x odds and 2 come bets with the same odds press. Plus I add a hard 6 and 8 for $1 and parlay it when hits. Stupid bet I know but this has helped me get back over 200 many times.

Once I am below 100 I do 1x odds and 1 come bet just to last at the table a little longer. Should probably still do 2 come bets or maybe 2x odds instead of 1x. It's hard to get back to 200 at my current.

This usually gets me 2 hours or more at the table. But have been wiped in 30 min before. I usually dont have huge wins but will occassionally have a 1200 win.

Oh I also pull a $5 chip off the table everytime I win a point or a come bet wins and comes down. So really I always walk with some money. Its fun to go to the cashier and just pull chips and have no idea how much I am going to pull out.

If you're at a $10 and 3x4x5x odds, then your average bet with odds ought to be about $50 if you max odds. Believe me you can lose $600 , I have lost more! But part of it for me is I hate to be down to my last few bucks before bowing out, I like to always have enough to color up even if I have been losing. That's partly vanity and partly superstition . And I feel this adheres to the "20 times bet amount" rule of thumb, I don't just count the line bet but the bet with odds and figure 20x on that. Yes, that means I seldom bring less than $800 and will bring usually more. Can't let the dice think they can go after a puny bankroll! [another superstition I entertain]

It's hard to say something is the 'wrong way' - but I don't like to reduce my bet just to stay alive, I'd rather take a breather.

Coach, as an individual who apparently is involved with sports/games given the 'coach' name, you must subscribe to the notion - 'You play to win the game'! Listen to a winner. You have to 'hit n run'. If you are up 20-100% of your session bank roll... leave the table and regroup on your next session and repeat. By the end of 8 sessions, you will be up considerably. If you stay on the table and get greedy, there is a good chance you will give back the profits. The small wins all add up by the end of the trip.

I'll assume you find $10 tables for a moment. $10 PL, $10 Odds, $12 on PB 6 or 8, for a $300 session.
If at $15 tables, $15 PL, $15 odds for a $300 session.
I'm wasting my life away calculating how I'm gonna make a killing on a winning streak when I lose 5 sessions in a row in 5 hours.

I've never had the same session twice. I typically buy in at a $5 table for $100. I can usually last a couple hours. But, my local casino is mostly the same people every time I go. I have a good gauge on the shooters roll and that will effect which side I play on. I'm typically a DC with max odds player. I've stood at that table for 6 hours and started with a $100 buy in and left with $100. That's cheap entertainment.

What are the max odds at that $5 table, the standard 10X in Vegas?
