Quote: betwthelinesthat is NOT true!! i just made a call 30 seconds ago to the craps pit there, plus i was there on 9/12/2015 and it was free 4/10 as usual....what IS true is that the bets are no longer marked on the layout...previously "FREE BUY" was prominently marked in the 4/10 boxes...believe you me that was the FIRST thing i noticed when i walked up to the rail last month....before making any bets i immediately asked if the 4/10 was no longer free...no, it was still free and still paid fairly...and is today...i am speculating (just now actually) that the layout was changed because they now have the ATS "bonus" bet, something that i do not remember them having before (i could be wrong about that since it is something i would never bet myself) and i believe that is a proprietary bet meaning you have to use the felt provided by contractor and like virtually all layouts does not have those free bets marked...
the fact is i would have been very much surprised---shocked even! if they have discontinued these free bets since they have featured them for about ten years or more, for a while i think the only place in the country that offered such....
beatyouraces, sorry but (i am relieved to say) your facts are wrong...

Well then I was lied to by the boxman. That's all I can say.

well, that's certainly possible...either that or i was lied to by the person on the phone just now (tho i would add "lie" might be too strong a word...ignorance or confusion is also possible i suppose but if so, i would have to admit that the person on phone would more likely be the one with the misinformation)...but, as i said, i was there on sep 11-12 and they had the bet...when was this, beatyouraces, that this happened to you?
thanks,

They were just opening the back table near the four Ultimate X machines when I asked since it wasn't on the layout. Probably just miss information. And this was this past Friday night (10/2) that I asked.

i called turtle creek again yesterday during the day shift and spoke with the craps pit boss...he confirmed that the free 4 and 10 are still available...
as i said before, i would have been much surprised if otherwise since they have had this amazing bet for at least 10 years

sure.
but casino websites are not always reliable as to what you might actually encounter when you walk through the door...santa ana's website had a video showing the free field long after it was gone from the table (the text-based info on the site was correct and they had removed the bet...but videos, being more of a production, likely get updated less easily or frequently...this video caused a good deal of confusion---and angst!)
policies like this can change daily-even hourly...websites not so much...
in this case the websites haven't changed because the policies never changed...walking through the door, ideally, or making a phone call to the pit are the best for actually knowing the current situations...on my last (car) trip to spring ball (vegas too) i actually went out of my way a bit to albuquerque specifically to get their free bets but i surely made a phone call first before doing so...

I appreciate your diligence and conviction. I have only heard of the free buy on the four. Never played it.

to the best of my knowledge only 4 places in the country have it...the joint in michigan and 3 in the albuquerque area...i have played at three of the four...
i have often wondered what would happen if some place in vegas dared to feature it!
if my experience is any indication, "not much"...it may or may not stimulate enough new business for a few more places to add it but i doubt that it would be spread widely there...be nice though for the Tough Craps player...

Add the Downtown Grand in Las Vegas to the list. Saw it there this weekend (on a short table even). I don't know how long it is going to be offered (or even how long the joint is going to still be open).

yes, i called the dt grand about a month ago & spoke to a pit critter there about it...he was very careful to add that it was a "promotion" and i got the distinct impression that this person at least was not at all confident that it would last very long...we'll see...
i'm sure if the bean counters believe that it is bringing in new business that they will keep it around...my own experience with it is that the 4 & 10 at these tables aren't getting bet all that much more than they otherwise would be....those that are inside bettors remain inside bettors it seems...the joint in michigan has had these free buys for over a decade though so they at least must figure that it is worthwhile...
my hope is that it will still be around in early december when i will next be in vegas....again, we'll see...
also there was a rumor---also heard this about a month ago---that there were a couple of places out on or near the strip offering the fair 4/10 as well but the names of those places escape me just now though i most certainly will go back and look as it gets closer to december...the rumor was unconfirmed.

Is any casino there better than the next? Planning on only being able to hit one.
Also, does the free buy 4/10 apply to the lay bet as well? I would be intrigued to play a free lay 4/10.
Thanks, and happy rolling.
Dan
Quote: VCUSkyhawkThe You can bet on that crew is getting reports that the free buy bets are gone at the Downtown Grand. Can anybody confirm or deny?. I will be there Sat. if nobody knows now.
I was there on Sunday 10/30 and the bets were still available. The dealers didn't seem too pleased that those were the only bets I was making but that's their problem.
Quote: VCUSkyhawkWell in fairness, if the casino sees that a lot of spots are being taken up by players ONLY making those bets, they probably will remove the offer. What incentive would they have to keep it? I think it is a great draw, but if it gets abused, then I expect it to be removed.
It was 3-4am. I wasn't taking any space that would've otherwise been occupied by somebody betting props.
