Long time lurker, first time poster. I've learned a lot from reading the threads here, and if it's not too trivial, I'm curious how the folks of this forum shoot the dice.
My last Vegas visit I noticed more dice setting regardless of whether shooters attempted controlled throws. I usually set the dice, but I like the aesthetics of making high lobs at stick eye level. Often I just focus on accuracy with no illusions of influence.
So, how about you? Do you set the dice and attempt an on-axis controlled throw? Do you look like you're absent-mindedly feeding chickens? Do you perform some ritual like spitting (ewwww...), blowing, praying or shouting? Shoot directly from the table top without lifting the dice up? Lob them as high as you can get away with?

Does a shooter's throwing style ever affect the way you bet? Are there certain styles of throwing that annoy you -- besides splashing chips or throwing off the table? My first time shooting (the outdoor table at Slot-A-Fun, a decade ago) I pissed off half the table by shooting too hard. Heh.

Welcome. I shake the dice up in my right hand and toss them just under the level of the table and just about as hard as I can without risking them flying out of the table. It's not a 100mph fastball, but it's a solid throw where everyone at the table knows I won't be having a short roll called on me. From the time the dice are passed to me to the time I shoot is about 2 seconds, unless someone's arm is in the way. Then I'll wait for a few seconds.

I dont set them. I just like getting rid of em as quick as possible when the stickman pushes them to me. I hate hitting chips at the other end and having to wait when the dice are sitting there (not sure why), amazingly whenever i do a seven comes out. I get so angry when someone reaches out last second to put an odds wager, field or come. Most dont but i had a women that purposefully did it every roll, she literally waited till the dice got pushed my way. Thereafter, i didnt care so much about the game or my money, my primary objective became hitting her hand with every toss... Unfortunately, i hit her hand first try and of course...lucky 7 out. I guess i deserved it. but it was well worth it. The sad thing is when i walked by the table later on in the night, she was still there and doing the same thing. Iv never seen a more quiet table or as many stink eyes shot towards a women in my life...

I'm a high lob guy and obviously don't bother setting the dice. I'm more worried about keeping the dice on the table than rolling a winning number.

I like to do a three finger grip (or is it two finger and thumb?) and toss the dice backhanded. I never make a set with the dice. I just line the two side by side with however the stickman pushes them to me. I like to have a soft high toss that hits the back wall, doesn't go off the table, and doesn't hit any chips.

Nothing bothers me more at the craps table than shooters who throw the dice too hard/too wild. I've nearly been hit by errant throws numerous times with dice flying off the table. It bothers me even more when they're knocking over everyone's chips. I guess I find it disrespectful in some manner. From now on I might switch to the DP if a shooter like that hits a non point number on their come out roll.

I have so many different throwing styles that are fun for me.

My favorite throw is what I call the stacker. With this throw, the dice are stacked one on top of the other and go through the air as a single mass. The dice click with an unusual sound when they land, and one die bounces further than the other die.

The other thing that entertains me is target practice. I will throw the dice trying to land on players' chips (specific targets). I will sometimes quietly tell one person that I intend to hit a particular chip with a particular die (left or right) and do my best to pull it off. My hit rate is good, but certainly not 100%.

I have a lot of different throws that are fun though. I could probably make a video of all the different throws that I like to do. In general the most fun thing about various throws is the reaction from people watching, especially if they laugh or get a kick out of it in one way or another.

There are so many ways to throw the dice. I have plenty of methods that I can usually show anyone at the table at least one way that they've never seen before.

I wouldn't mind if he was throwing with finesse. It's the shooters that throw the dice like the table is a pinball machine who really drive me crazy.

I have thrown dice exactly once in Vegas. PSO. I've only thrown one session before that, on a cruise ship. I throw left-handed, sidearm, slight arc into the far wall. No finesse whatsoever. Thinking about finding some.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

My throwing style is variable depending upon such factors as time-at-table, alcohol intake, etc.

Most of the time, if it is a come out roll, I just pick up the two nearest dice and throw them before the stick man can deal with the three he is still trying to coral back into the dice bowl. No particular aiming point or style, just speed. Ain't setting the dice and no one is going to suspect me of it.

Once there is a point I tend to do a high lob, but have had a few notable calls about "man overboard" and stickman's forehead. I do get a few "please hit the back wall reminders" from time to time but usually the dice do indeed go all the way and bounce back from the wall with no problems. Once I lobbed, no vibration and no bounceback, just landed at the very far corner and stayed there. Any decent Boxman would have called No Role but he saw it was a losing one for me, so he let it stand.

I don't think anyone really cares about "style"... just speed. Pick 'em up and toss 'em. No dancing, no incantations, no chicken dinners, no new shoes. Just pick them up and throw them more or less towards the far end of the table. And that is what I seem to do... most of the time.

SL-1, set dice 5/4 4/5, low, soft left-handed overhand throw, landing on the "E" in 'COME' so the dice 'barely' hit the back wall.

I usually set my dice, 1-3 on top, 3-1 facing me. Once my dice are aligned, I often stare into the dice, in deep concentration, visualizing their flight and seeing them drop on the right number. From the felt, a quick forward motion with a slight flick of the fingers at release.

I do not think the setting gives me any kind of advantage but it pleases me seeing my favorite numbers.

My favorite shot that you did was when you would toss the dice so they would consistently bounce high enough to not hit the pyramids, but not too high that they left the table. I was impressed with your accuracy.

My personal style is quite random, but I'm always blabbering some nonsense when I'm throwing them....
