I love seeing what's "wrong" with gambling scenes from movies or television.. Here's a screen shot from Friends.. At first look I think everything is procedurally correct, but can you see any bad bets or figure out who's got what?

Maybe I'm totally missing something, but all of their bets look OK.

The image is not clear enough for me to be sure, but it looks as if one player has a $5 free odds bet with a point of nine. That would be allowed but would not pay out fully. A couple of other players appear to have chosen not to bet free odds at all. That, too, is allowed. The chip right on top of the 5 seems oddly placed, unless that is a toke bet.

Also looks like someone is laying the 10 for $100 (or at least, a black chip)

The better at the end in the corner has a $75 come bet backed up with $50 odds. Not illegal just a bad bet combo. Somebody betting quarters would usually know how to bet.
Be careful when you follow the masses, the M is sometimes silent.

In my experience, the unrealistic bit is that there's a pretty girl at the craps table. That never happens.
Old enough to repaint. Young enough to sell.

The biggest problems as far as realism is that:

(A) The chips are solid in color with no graphics at all (Casino de Isthmus chips should be used for film/TV not plain looking poker chips)
(B) What should be red chips are orange (orange chips are very unusual, but never $5 chips)
(C) There is no buy lammer on the $100 ten and it is placed to look like a place bet when it should be a buy bet

Everything else looks like what you might see in a real casino. Also one dude in the background is looking at the camera which looks a little off.

That's how I see it.

The episode is supposed to be in Las Vegas (I think), but the layout looks like the typical AC layout with no Big 6 / Big 8 in the corner.
Old enough to repaint. Young enough to sell.

There are plenty of Vegas layouts without a Big 6 or Big 8 bet.

A serious player would be able to tell you which Vegas casinos have that bet and which don't.

AC it's illegal, but in Vegas, it still reflects a higher class establishment to not have that bet on the felt at all.

I am pretty sure that scene was shot at Culver Studios in Culver City, Calif. The same studio where probably every casino drama is shot with the exception of those few films/shows that have actually shot in actual casinos such as Bellagio for the Oceans 11 series and the Sands for the original.

1. The craps table is WAY too close to the slot machines, as well as too close to the wall.

2. The slot machines don't have the same colors on the "barber pole" lights.

3. If you remember the scene from the show, Chandler said that if Monica threw a hard 8, he'd marry her. That said, why no hard 8 bets? (Although, frankly, with such a statement, they should have HOPPED the 4-4.)

It's actually pretty good for a TV show and I noticed that when I watched the scene.

It looked originally like there was an extra line bet out there (as monica was not playing) but you can see a woman's breasts in green next to Monica who had that $25 / $75 pass line out there.

There's a place 8 (2 of them) for $5 (should be $6)

C'mon jones, don't leave us hanging! What was the specific goof you were looking for? I didn't notice anything that wasn't already mentioned.

Reminds me of the King of the Hill episode "The Final Shinsult" which I just watched. At the end of the episode, Cotton books a hard 8, and then the stick calls "1-2 craps" and it's implied that he lost the hard way bet, as Cotton then climbs out of his baby seat and starts stomping on the table saying "it was a practice throw! practice!" Of course any casino regular knows a hard 8 only loses to a 7 or an easy 8, but a non-gambler would have no clue, or even a casual gambler might remember that "some" bets lose on a total of 3 and not give it any more thought.
