Where should I bring my pathetic bankroll? Barona looks cool & is closest to where i'm staying. Viejas seems kinda beat but I wouldn't mind going to that outlet mall. Harrah's might be a bit off the beaten path, but I may be making a side trip further north in which case that could be an option. Where is there the least amount of heat? I'll have like $400 max, so it's 6D for me :-/ I normally play in CT...I'm used to 6D/S17/LS games with terrible pen. @ mohegan or 8D/H17/LS with great pen @ foxwoods (they apparently no longer offer S17). Our casinos don't really care about counters from what I've seen...I guess we're lucky?

I don't have any recent first hand information for California casinos but I do for Connecticut's since you mentioned them.

The Newport Room at Foxwoods is S17. Minimums are $50 and they are 6 decks not 8 with 83%-85% penetration. These games are closely watched and back-offs do occur.

I would play at Barona, simply because it's a mucher nicer place than all the rest and they seem to be pretty liberal with their comps....
Second place, would be Harrah's Rincon, only because it's a CET property and the comps are transferrable...

Depending on what you're playing, you might even get comped a room..
I know playing $5+$25 odds in craps I get good food comps and I've been comped a weekend room and am gettign another weekend room comped...
So I would think if you're playing $25 BJ, you'd probably be treated pretty well...

I agree that Barona is the best but it is a very long drive from Los Angeles; that is why I end up at Rincon the most. Driving from Barona to Rincon can be a little dangerous, or fun if you wanna look at it a different way; it is either a great deal of back tracking for the easy way or driving twisty mountain roads through seemingly nowhere to save about half the time.

If you are going to go to Rincon you simply MUST go to Valley View casino next door. new players get $20 slot play or match play as well as a free buffet, and their buffets feature lobster 7 days a week. They are the nations 2nd largest purchaser of lobster after red lobster.

Whaaaat? You just go back to the 15S (it's like 15 minutes) then East on the Scripps-Poway Pkway to 67 and you're there...

You are not just there. It's about an hour drive. And going back to the 15s adds 20-30 minutes.

I prefer the scenic route. Just don't do it at night. Going back to I-15 adds about 20 minutes (almost exactly 15 miles) depending on traffic.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't think that Barona is far from or hard to get to from San Diego. Just go I-8 to CA-67 and it's like 4 miles farther east...

I'll join that minority...I drove from Rincon to Barona at 12am on a friday night, AFTER driving 8 hours to GET to San Diego...
Now though it's a helluva lot easier to get from Modesto to Barona for me (99 -> 5 -> 210 -> 15 -> BARONA!)
The OLD way through I5 to I8 was TERRRIBLE

I nominate you for Abbreviation/Acronym Grandmaster! [g]

still pondering what SD means. Single deck? South Dakota? San Diego?

So i opted for Barona. It was cool. I made a little money. I was struck with allergies though, so I dind't get to spend much time in there. It was a loud & obnoxious young atmosphere (due largely to the "party pit" promotion), but they seem to have a very fair $25 DD game. Just gotta watch out for some of the dealers...most were awesome, but two were really terrible (one cost me a $50 bet, so I just called that their toke...lol).
