Hey everyone. I was wondering if any of you guys could tell me what would happen if I sat down at the El Cortez single deck game with a single game specific basic strategy card? Would they notice, care or kick me out? And though I'm decent enough with a couple of counting systems I will not be using them there... just trying to play a game with good expectation and not worry about heat, spreads, etc. I've never played single deck before so I want to have the best odds. Thanks!

The EC is one of my favorite gambling spots.
I have seen quite a few players with a BJ BS card.
A few times I watched the supervisor ask to see the card and politely gave it back to the player and told him to please keep it on his lap.
It always seems to bring up the discussion on how to play certain hands and most players do not agree with every play on a BS card.

Ya I was worried that if they noticed a single deck specific basic strategy card they might not dig it too much lol

Actually I did not mention that the supervisor did tell the player that he could use it, the BS card, but not to have it on the table at any time. That is why he said to keep it on his lap.Quote: bobbarker14Ya I was worried that if they noticed a single deck specific basic strategy card they might not dig it too much lol
I have talked to many BJ players at EC after they were barred from playing 21 because they were counting. They could play other games, like craps, but no more 21 at EC.

In a somewhat related vein, what if you made your own strategy card? And not necessarily the EC, but any casino. Would they have a problem with your own, home-made, strategy card? I know you can buy the commercially available strategy cards, but what if you wanted it somewhat different, so you made your own.

I've always memorized my basic strategy play, and then made the slight adjustments for the type of table and rules I was playing.
But recently when I sat down to play Triple Attack Blackjack recently, I used a strategy page I made from the Wiz's advice. Since there are strategies about when to place the second and third attack attack and the play strategy depending on how many cards have been dealt in my hand, I didn't feel confident memorizing it, so I used my sheet of paper at the table, didn't have any problems.

Some casinos will ask you to keep it off the table, but that depends upon the size. I.E. If it's a standard business card / credit card size, they probably will let you place it on the table. Otherwise, keep it in your shirt pocket for quick access.
This is not any attempt to put heat or pressure on you. It's more so the camera's view of the table isn't obscured unnecessarily.
I invented a few casino games. Info:

Some players on my tables try to hide it, but I tell them the smart player uses the cheat sheet and I invite them to leave it on the table if they want. I try to help out the players as much as I can, but most of them do not even notice.

Most SD games deal less then 1/2 a deck, IE- head up w/ dealer 3 hands and shuffle, full table 1 hand and shuffle.
Have not been there for a few months, would get much better penetration on 2D.
I have enjoyed playing the 2D off the strip for a 5 Min

I always have a BS card on me when i am playing. It isn't correct for all the tables, but close enough for me. Had one pit boss take a look at it, he just said "I should be selling these things" and tossed it back. I do keep it in my pocket and just pull it out for when I can't remember proper play. I don't get to the casino's to much. I often see players at the tables who are clueless and don't know what to do. They even seem suspicious of the dealers who are actually giving them good advice. And other players are all giving them their opinions. I will pull out the card and tell them what it says to do. That way if they lose anyway they can blame the card and not me. I make sure to say this is what you should do, but no guarantee's.

When I started at Blackjack Switch I had developed a four page A4 document which covered some of the switching strategies (I hadn't finished all the possibilities but had most obvious cases covered). The manager was very friendly and was happy if I learnt them all but not refer to the paper. One of the reasons they liked BjS was that few people would be able to know the strategy (this was before the internet had some).
However when trying out PaiGow tiles for the first time, they were happy that I had an A4 piece of paper including a list of the tile order, a totally correct way to play pairs, and basic strategy (I have yet to update it with the JS way) - and were very friendly as I think they liked new people trying to learn the game. As time went by I was beginning to see the "obvious" plays.
I'd like to think most casinos won't object to having one of the $1 strategy cards - indeed at one time they used to give them out as part of the welcome package!

About two years ago, I had made a booklet of strategies for all the games (which I still have yet to finish). I was able to use the booklet at various tables throughout Vegas and Ontario without issue. This included a strategy card for switch which included when to switch.

I have also used strategy printouts at lots of games. Sometimes the floorman will ask to see it, which I agree to, and they always give it back. I too get the "keep it off the table" request a lot, which doesn't bother me.
The only issue I ever had is when I was still learning pai gow with a printout from my site at a busy table at the MGM they told me that I was slowing down the game and I would have to put the paper away or come back another time when it wasn't so busy.

I find it interesting they let you use a printout - but you can't have the strategy up on your phone and use that.

MGM Pai Gow dealers are really grumpy, I played there last month and left after 3 hands because the dealer was so mean. If she hates her job, I will take it!

ANY electronic device worries them, no matter how dumb the programmer is.
ANY shiny device worries them, if you put it on the table they think you are looking at the dealer's hole card or something with a mirror and if they don't think it, they will soon get a phone call from surveillance who think that is what you are doing. That is why they don't like foreign objects on the table.
If you slow things down, of course they don't like it no matter what the reason is.
Often a pit boss will examine the item and give it back to you just to satisfy surveillance: I've seen Floor Men with those cards dangling from their own belt. They don't care if a player uses them and keeps it in their hand or lap, its the table top that is "suspect territory".
