for some reason an online casino was messed up and the spanish 21 was being dealt as single deck.

what would the house edge be for this game? dealer hits soft 17 redouble allowed.

house edge way up or down?

This seems to be a DGS software issue. Found this issue at 3/3 casinos i tried (only ones with demo mode i could find). Heritage sports, The Greek, and sportsbookreview casinos. Probably 500 hands at each and never a card that matches rank and suit.

I'm not sure that I understand. Are you saying that their Spanish 21 game is documented (perhaps in their Help files) as using a 6 or 8-deck shoe, but your ".. 500 hands at each and never a card that matches rank and suit." causes you to conclude that it is just a single-deck shoe?

I just had a look at the Spanish 21 page on the Wizard of Odds site, and found no guidance there concerning the impact of a single-deck shoe on the Theoretical RTP for the game.

I suspect that it would actually improve your return. However, if true, then other parameters of their game may offset this improvement.

I had a look around, but could not find any DGS Help file information on this game. It would be interesting to see what the total parameters for their Spanish 21 game are. For guidance, I point you to the aforementioned Spanish 21 Page on the Wizard of Odds' site. Perhaps you might be able to gather the specs on this game and report back with the full scoop?

However, if they have documented that they use a 6 or 8-deck shoe, but your data proves true and supports the conclusion that it is indeed just a single-deck shoe, well .....

1. I'd have to call that a programming error, and ...

2. If it is also true that this improves the odds, I'd play there.

One practical qualification - there may be a difference between the "Play for Fun" version of this game and the "Play for Real" version. I am not stating that this is true. However, I'll speculate that since the "Play for Real" application involves security, databases, etc. that the "Play for Fun" application probably doesn't require, then they are probably 2 completely separate applications. As such, if this is a programming error then it is entirely possible that one version may exhibit this error and the other may not.

And finally; If it is a programming error then one is left to wonder - what else does the game actually do versus what the documentation says that it does?

Interesting thoughts Mr. Binary128 ! I know it is a very old thread, but just for the record, I have the data:

For a Spanish 21 balckjack game using only 1 Deck game and Hit on Soft 17 there is player edge of ~0.06%

For a Spanish 21 blackjack game using only 1 Deck game and Stand on Soft 17 there is player edge of ~0.41%

For a Spanish 21 balckjack game using 6 Decks game and Hit on Soft 17 there is house edge of ~0.65%

For a Spanish 21 balckjack game using 6 Decks game and Stand on Soft 17 there is house edge of ~0.27%

For the game software Yoyopa talks about (Digital Gaming Solutions formerly known as DGS) I can say has not been tested for fairness in the last decade and that allows casinos to alter the game rules on the go. And the game in cause is "Hit on Soft 17" !
