i created a side bet just for fun to play while playing blackjack, it is the exact concept as the field bet in craps, except is based on the outcome of the players first two cards dealt.
All soft hands are a push (to stop descrepencies**)
being that all soft hands are a push, the lowest number two cards can create without an ace is 4.
the bet is that the players first two cards will be less then 10 or 17 or higher. the "bet box" would look as such;
4(pays triple) 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 17, 18, 19, 20(pays double) all other numbers listed pay 1 to 1.
10 numbers for the player to win with, and 7 that the dealer wins with. (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16) giving the impression that the odds are in YOUR favor, but like the field bet in craps the "few" that the players lose on are the most common to make, hence the dealer has a good edge.
does anybody know how to figure out the dealers advantage to a fantasy bet as such?
Thanks

Assuming (and you know what that means) that I didn't mess something up, I get a player ev of -0.003016591251885 for single deck.
2 decks: 0.004480955937267
6 decks: 0.00939896116745

Nope. Only single deck favors the house. The more decks, the more it favors the player.

Player advantage for single deck? Just the opposite.
The player ev stated for single deck is a negative number. It's positive for 2 and 8 decks. Therefore, the more decks, the better it is for the player.
This, assuming of course, that the math was correct.

Field of Gold
Field of Gold is a side bet I'm told can be found at the Spirit Mountain Casino in Grand Ronde, Oregon. All wins are based on the player's first two cards. For side bet purposes, aces always count as one. The following return table is based on six decks. The lower right cell shows a house edge of 5.66%.
Field of Gold - Six Decks
Event Pays Permutations Probability Return
Ace/jack suited 25
Two aces 10
3 or 4 total 3
9 or 10 total 2
Any other blackjack 1.5
11 to 12 total 1
All other -1
Total 48516 1 -0.056641

Field Gold 21™ is one of the hottest new blackjack side bets on the market today. It provides players with another twist on an old favorite…a traditional blackjack game with an Optional side bet wager. Side bets win on any “Field” number ( 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12) from the craps table.
SIDE BET WAGERS HAVE A CHANCE TO WIN ON 12
Unlike regular blackjack, where players find that cards totaling 12 come up often and can be a losing hand, in Field Gold 21, players are rewarded for a 12 and for any number on the field, as long as they wager on the side bet. The basic blackjack rules apply, but Field Gold 21 offers players the ability to win on any number on the field.
Here's the deal to be a “winner in the field”: In addition to making the regular blackjack bet, the player can choose to place a side bet. To win the side bet, the player's first two cards must total any of the numbers on the field: 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12. Field Gold 21 will surely captivate players with added excitement and variation by eliminating players’ biggest complaints from a losing hand to a surprise 2-card winning hand!

Field Gold 21 quote from the game developer : " As Terminel knows from his vast experience as a games dealer, blackjack players frequently complain that a pair will not earn them a prize. " Has anyone ever and I mean ever heard a BJ player complain that a pair did not earn them a prize !!!
