Most of us here that have spent any significant amount of time trying to make it as a full-time AP know that it can really feel like such a miserable grind sometimes, but there are few times when it's just a real pleasure.

So I'm currently on the way back from another trip as I'm writing this, my brother is driving. Playing on the first night of our trip, I am spreading an absolute "kick me the f out spread" of $15 - $500. After a few hours of playing I'm up and I finally get a high count and max bets come out, I win a few of them and to my disbelief, I get a pair of tens against a dealer 6. I glance at the discard tray and there's about a deck and a half left with a RC of +13. So I split my tens with a max bet, the table along with the dealer loses it! One of the guys at the table tells me I'm crazy if I do that and the dealer shakes his head like I'm an idiot and begs me not to do it! LOL. But I'm dead set on it and I say split several times, and he does. I get a 9 on the first, ace on the 2nd, dealer flips a 9 and breaks with a ten. After making this play I'm up $5,600 in about 4 hours. I push in to color up and then I have the audacity to ask the pit boss if it's possible for me to speak to someone to get a room comp. They make a call, ask for my players card and tell me to hangout. A very nice casino host came out and talked to me and she comped me my whole trip! Then she encouraged me to keep playing, and I assured her I definitely would. I told her I was going to take a break to get something to eat and I would be back, then she wrote me a food comp..

Can you believe the nerve of this guy!

I sense sarcasm.

Ive had someone complain that I hit a 12 against a 2 and walk out.

Another one complained when I hit a soft 18 against a high card. He claimed to be a drug dealer. Why would I care.

Yeah I get players complaining every now and then about me hitting 12 v 2 or 3. They don't believe it when you tell them it's the right play but often times the dealer will let them know that it's correct. I had a player get really mad and leave the table one time when I hit my 12 v 4, which was fine because it meant more hands for me.

There are other players at the table? I've never noticed them.

This seems common at BJ (in my experience), a lot of people seem to think you are making a mistake if you hit a 12 against a 2/3, and sometimes get verbally upset over it, more so than any other "mistake" (not that this is actually a mistake which makes it stranger).

Even if you are making a mistake, I don't know why people would care what you do. Sometimes when you do it and get a 10 and bust they say , "That should have been mine why did you do that", or something along those lines, I guess they feel like you are taking their card? I really don't know...

Usually, it's when you are the last player, and you got a 10 that would have caused the dealer to bust, but "you took the dealer's bust card," the dealer gets 20 or 21, and the other players lose, "thanks to you."

You could offer to sell them the hand and they can play it however they like.

Welcome, to my life more or less every day lately. In other words, don't say it can't be until you've tried it.

I’ve had similar experiences. I get more negative reactions from hitting/doubling a soft 18 than any other basic strategy play. In a distant second is hitting a 12. The soft 18 hit/double really sets some people off.
If anyone gives you 10,000 to 1 on anything, you take it. If John Mellencamp ever wins an Oscar, I am going to be a very rich dude.

You wanna really get some dirty looks, play Spanish 21 by the book. Hit your 13 against a 5 and watch the fireworks.

It really is. It happens so rarely and usually just when you get to the point where you are questioning whether or not you can keep doing this. All you can really do is plan it the best you can, play it right and try to stay dedicated.

Here is what I tell myself about why it is so rare for everything to come together perfectly:
-have to get lucky just to find good bets that the casino will take
-then have to get lucky just to get money down on those bets
-then have to get lucky with the results of the bets. And not just winning a few, but going way over expectations.

it's tough, but it does happen. And even if it was only $200 in value, that is still great to get that from one place in just a few hours.

Absolutely! I've been able to rack up a couple thousand of EV per trip so far without any back offs, and my AV is a little over so that's nice. The toughest part for me is the travel and just being away from my family.

I've found in my blackjack playing days anytime a ploppy is bringing an unwanted amount of attention to my play I'd simply look at them and say "Bet you $100 that this is basic strategy and we can look it up." Obviously this doesn't work for indexes, but anytime a ploppy is giving you hell over a basic strategy play, I've found this shuts them up quite nicely.

...and yes, I've had them take me up on the offer a couple times. +EV

I'm pretty sure one time I responded to something along the lines of this...

Yeah oh, I know, it's probably a bad way to play, but what the heck, I'm here to gamble, I guess if either of us were smart we wouldn't be gambling in the casino in the first place.
