Can't say that I have.
Quote: Zcore13I agree if it is searchable from the persons Alias or screen name. It's a different story if information is not public knowledge and is then divulged.

It required too much digging to find. When it is on Wikipedia, I'll consider it being common knowledge. Same issue as the WoN website. Just because somebody else exposes personal information about someone elsewhere, doesn't mean it can be mirrored here.
And you don't need to put your screen name at the bottom of ever post.

I don't need to, but I have for the last 9 years here. If it makes you sad, or hurts you in any way, I could stop.

I know very few AP's that have retired or plan on it. They may slow down, put in fewer hours and become pickier what they play. Most AP's don't think of it as a Job. Yes, at times it feels like one, but not all that often. Non-AP's might not understand if you diversify the stuff you play and do, AP is always changing. There are always new interesting things to learn, there's almost always a new challenge. There are so many different things one can be doing you shouldn't ever get bored of AP(there are some plays that can get boring after a while).Quote: Zcore13Thanks. That's gave me the information I was looking for.

Can you give me a link to the "about me" page you refer to?

This is what I meant when I said I had no plans to retire
Thanks for articulating it better
I still am not big on revealing personal information about people that they have not directly made public and that you have to jump around to find. Based on the information I had at the time, I think the punishment was warranted, perhaps even lenient. However, new information has come to light that I think merits lifting it. Since one day was served, I owe GlenG a day off his next suspension.
I hope this whole thing can be a lesson learned that when in doubt about revealing personal information, especially where this is absolutely no reason to, then don't.
Quote: WizardTwo people mounted a spirited defense of GlenG via PM. They made a good argument that it didn't take too much digging to find Munch's real name and his own web site links to a source that reveals it.

I think this is why there should be a direct link to mods for suspended people here on wov
Not all of us will have others sending pms in our defense. There should be some avenue for suspended people to argue their case

But it's NOT a good argument. So what
if it's easily found. The rules here say
what they say. In AA, it's a rule you don't
discuss peoples real names, even if the
guy is the local Chevy dealer that half
of you bought cars from. The fact that
a name can be found or is known does
not negate the rules. It does not give
a member permission to announce it
to the world. Just like in AA, just because
you know it's the Chevy dealer doesn't
give you the right to put it in your local
newspaper.

I’ve always been under the impression that suspended people can login and PM others, just not post. I’m almost certain I remember reading a mod say that. But I’ve never been suspended so I really don’t know.

Nope, you can receive PM's but not
send them.

EB said correct
You are basically cut off from all outgoing communication
Babs said she was on the verge of suspending RS over what turned out to be a keystroke error. Only his past history caused her to pause. If you were banned for saying the Jews were bad (when you meant the News were bad) you should have some way to defend yourself to the mod
At least some open avenue
Quote: billryanA suspension last a whole three days. Maybe take a walk. Smell a flower. The vast majority of suspensions are well deserved and appealing it to the same moderator isn't going to do anything but cause bad feelings.
But I can drive cross-country in 3 days. 3 days can be very productive if im not cutoff
:)
Eww smelling flowers?
EDIT: maybe its a new york thing. Walking around smelling flowers doesnt have much appeal
Thats why we built walls around people who do that. We call it the Botanical Gardens

Thank you! You would not believe the cries of injustice us mods get over three-day suspensions. No wonder nobody wants to take over Mission's job.

You make a very valid case. This suspension was a tough one. I still don't like that Munch's name was revealed, even if it can be found one link away from his own web site.

Very few things we will ever agree on but this is one. As I always say, You’ll live.

Pish tosh. Praise to Wizard for being willing to listen to a good argument and then reverse himself.
Ex: Let's say that I mention that Elton John's real name is Reginald Dwight. Unknown to me, one of the forum members - say, EvenBob - is really Elton John. What harm would I have done to Elton John/Even Bob? Why should I be punished for a repeating something about a public figure that is widely known? Would not I be completely innocent of malice and intent to do wrong, and victimized only because EvenBob has never revealed he is Elton John?

Personal insult to Elton John. Suspension in order :)

Thanks a lot. Now I have to change my view on this subject.
This issue isn't whether someone's private personal information is easily available. This issue is that this site, supposedly a friend to advantage players should not be a party in any way to bringing such information to light.
Zcore13, works for the casino industry, surely there are others as well. Even though the information is readily available with relatively little digging, I'll bet none of these industry employed members did that search. But because the information was posted on this site, they now have the information as well as explicit directions of where to go to find it.
Mr. Shackleford, I don't know your history as far as advantage player and to what level? But the cost of outing an advantage player's information is quite real to the AP, especially a professional AP of which Munchkin is. It costs money. Real dollars. Your re-assessment that it is ok for WoV to be a party to that and those that out an AP receive nothing more than a "you shouldn't do that", simply is not good enough for me.
No offense to Glen. He may be a great guy, but outing an AP, should not be allowed on this forum and is suspension worthy.

You know he legally changed his real name to:
Reginald Hercules Dwight
Quote: MrBoI respectfully disagree with your Re-assessment, Mike.
I respect your disagreement. As I said before, this was a tough call and I knew half the forum would disagree with me either way. In my defense, I did the remove Munch's real name as soon as I was aware of the problem and will do so again.
I absolutely believe in respecting the confidentiality of advantage players. It is my desire that this be a community where everyone, on both sides, can feel safe to discuss ideas freely and anonymously.
As for Munch, if he cared deeply about his birth name, he wouldn't link to a site that states it. At some point you have to question what is a secret and what isn't.
I can't think of anything else to say on this topic other than to repeat that this was just a three-day suspension. Is is the end of the world if you can't post here for three days?

Yes its the end of the world
But you should take that as a compliment to the site doing something right
