Does anyone play PP? I know it's a sucker bet... But I'm a recreation gambler. Usually $10 progression with BS. Can't count. Not smart enough. Occasionally start at $25
But playing PP seems like a fun way to add excitement to the 3-4 times a year I get to gamble. Odds are bad, but are they worth it for a receaetional player like me?

Pairs Plus is on a lot of games, and there are a lot of paytables out there. My opinion on it would depend on what paytable they're offering, but it probably is safe to call it a sucker bet regardless. I'm willing to play it with the paytable under 3%, but most are worse. ( 50/40/30/6/4/1 paytable has a HE of 2.1357%, but it's rare to see it).
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

I sometimes play 3 card poker to break things up at the casino.
I play the 'pairs plus' and '6 card bonus' side bets.
The only time I've won meaningful money was when the side bets hit.

Is Pair Plus trying to make a 3 Card Poker hand out of your first two cards and the dealer's up card?
I don't see that side bet listed on the Wizard's Blackjack Side Bets — Analyzed webpage, though it would be close to 21+3. You may be interested in reading about other side bets you're likely to encounter.

I play it all the time. I gamble for fun and excitement. Variance costs money.
The most fun in 3 Card is that moment right before you pick up the cards. There's no thrill if there's no difference between AKJ offsuit and AAA, other than the extra 4 units on the ante. Obviously AAA is winning, but AKJ is probably winning, too.

If I'm going to sit down for some 3CP, I'll put something on the Pair Plus (often less than my ante/play bet). In my typical play, I manage to hit enough pairs, straights, and flushes that it seems worthwhile and adds to my fun- and every now and then a 3OAK or straight flush will pop up.
If you want to hear people go nuts, sit down at one of those tables and only play the Ante/Play bet... Even the dealers will harass you endlessly.
On the other hand, the 6 card bonus bets are a cash vacuum. I watch min bet players on $5 or $10 tables get cleaned out on that bet quickly when they would otherwise be running at least even without it. Of course, you just have to be willing to accept it if lightning strikes and you hit one of the big hands with that... Or go ahead and play it as if it were a lottery or slots.

The 6 card is ridiculously high -EV; something like 7% or more. (I forget, but there are also different paytables). Still, it was hard to stay off it when there was a million dollar progressive. And it's a flat $5, so not that much, but really a sucker bet (except I tend to be lucky on it).
