When I want to enter mid-shoe, I usually get the inevitable "Do you mind waiting until the next shoe?". I usually just barge in there and say "I feel like playing now". If a player loses a hand, or even a side bet, I get the usual "you ruined the order of the cards" speech. I know that Blackjack requires a thick skin, but I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions on how I should act or what I should say when I want to enter mid-shoe.
Also, when I'm in a bad count I want other players to enter. Do you have any suggestions on what I should say then?

Look, I don't want to jump in, but after that last string of cards I can't just sit by and let you lose. This is a classic knockout sweepdown pattern that has to be broken by the addition of another hand right now.

I put my chips in the circle, and say nothing.

If they ask me to wait, I ignore them.

"Any time I ask someone to wait to join, I end up on a fierce losing streak." After they lose the next 2 hands, jump in anyway.

"I could really use a little help changing up the cards." Or you could jump out if the cards suck.
May the cards fall in your favor.

There you go. Nothing you say is going to make a difference. They'll just have to root for me to lose. Sometimes they're not disappointed. :-)

I don't ignore them. But I'm not gonna start talking a million miles a minute. Let them talk. Wait a few seconds after they're done talking then say something. Be slow. If you're buying in, all you're trying to do is buy time until you get your chips and can place your bets. Then you're golden. Once the cards start flowing, he'll either shut his trap, or you'll be OK to completely ignore him, since he'll look like an idiot since he'll be bitching for you to wait for the next shoe but you'll just be playing.

My game isn't based on back counting but I still do it at times. I never buy in preferring to have chips at the ready to plunk down before anyone realizes it. It works. Before anyone can say anything, I've already messed up the cards. I once had a player reach over and push back my bet and tell me to wait.

No Habla Ingles (or pick a more obscure language and learn those 3 words so nobody responds)

P.S. There are other players at the table?

Perhaps just start talking about something completely unrelated so the objector thinks you're mentally unstable and lets it go, ala "some dogs are named Talmadge" from glen wiggy's 1536 free waters.

Yeah, I wanna hear the rest of this too. I hope the dealer and floor took your side?

Fellow Players cannot restrict a new player from entering if it is allowed. They themselves were welcomed as new players a moment ago, and so shall be the entering player.

If the house doesn't limit mid-shoe entry, in you go.

This could have been one of those memorable stories that get told and retold but it wasn't. The floor was standing right there and saw the whole thing. She told the guy to behave and told me I could replace my bet if I wanted. If I wanted? I played the hand and everyone pushed the dealer's 20. More 10s came out on the next hand and it was time to leave.

As I was leaving, the floor called me to the side and told me the guy was having a bad day. Well excuse me! She then made an apology that didn't ring sincere to me. I could have made a stink but this was one of my regular casinos. I don't sweat the small stuff and don't want the attention.

This is exactly right. The key to a long and successful counting career is staying under the radar. Stuff like this is a perfect example. Back counting and jumping in is already drawing attention. By not drawing further attention to yourself, it helps. As you said ...don't sweat the small stuff.

As an aside if I'm playing a no mid-shoe table and the count is really crappy, and other players are waiting one of my best moves is to ask for a shuffle "so that they can come in". Three benefits: 1. The pit will almost always accommodate your request thereby saving you from playing the rest of a bad shoe. 2. Not that I care really but it gets you in good with any other players, which makes them less likely to bitch (hopefully) about any index plays you may make. 3. I think it makes you look less like a counter in general, makes you seem like just another ploppy, since the floor rightly assumes that counters want less people at the table not more. In other words it's free cover. Or nearly free, you do have to potentially share a good shoe upcoming.
