Quote: AvincowIs it a bad idea to count in the high limit room? I have always avoided it because I think there is more scrutiny there. But am I really getting anymore scrutiny than making $100-$300 bets on the main floor? My bankroll can take $25 minimums. I can do $50 minimums depending on the rules
There is usually more heat and sharper pit crews in high limit rooms. That's where the majority of my back offs have occurred. As a result I seldom play them. Are you planning on playing rated? If not you'll get a little more heat.
Am I understanding that your spread is 1-3? You could probably get away with that, even in high limit.

Thanks for confirming my assumption. There's some high limit rooms I would consider playing rated and others playing unrated. Either way, probably just better to play the h17 games on the main floor.
Also, I had meant that my max bet would be somewhere between $100 and $300. So I guess I could get away with $50-$200 if $100-$300 is acceptable.
Quote: AlanMendelsonI am not a blackjack player, and I certainly am not a counter, but a friend of mine is a counter. He told me he never plays alone. He counts but always signals to a friend at the table when to do the bigger betting. Or he does the "Hollywood thing" and have a friend come to the table. And in the case of the friend they don't "abuse" the system. They take their modest win and leave. He said something like a daily win of $500 was all he needed.
Yep I know about that method, the problem is finding someone you can trust with your money. Not only that they can be honest, but also control themselves with big money and not gamble. Many people who have these traits may not even like the idea of stepping foot in a casino anyway. So pool of candidates is very small.
Yep...$500 a day...just go to the table-ATM. Not like you'd ever have a losing day...or week...or month.Quote: AlanMendelsonI am not a blackjack player, and I certainly am not a counter, but a friend of mine is a counter. Why is everything so simple for you! :)

Either your friend isn't very smart [if that's what he said]....or he meant $500 per day in EV.
Does he press his bets when he's losing to catch up? [Or when he's winning cuz he's on a roll?] Does he employ a Rob-Singer attitude when playing?
@Topic: Depends on the store, IMO. If you'd be playing all alone in the HL room....bad idea. If it's a busy weekend and lots of players (and bigger players especially), might not be a bad idea.
It's never an "always" case in BJ or other AP stuff -- it depends on the circumstances. What people are betting on the main floor (all red? all green + black? thousands?)? What's going on in the HL room -- busy, slow? What kind of action are you putting down? Is the floor dude in the high limit chill or is he like that a**hole from El Cortez who sweats green action?
That statement makes me raise an eyebrow.Quote: AlanMendelsonThey take their modest win and leave. He said something like a daily win of $500 was all he needed.
Didn't see you're comments before I posted, glad to see someone else also found it strange.Quote: RSQuote: AlanMendelsonbut a friend of mine is a counter. He told me he never plays alone. Quote: rainmanA mere 25 from each casino just sounds so simple.
Yep. I can just see someone being up $24.75 chasing that last 25¢ only to lose $2000 in the process.

very simple indeed.
you play at a disadvantage, and you want to play 20 sessions/casinos in a row and need to win each and every one session.
How simple is that?
