General Info
I posted information related to my bankroll, games, spread, and even my "benchmark" EV calculations in my "hello forums" thread a couple weeks ago. Feel free to reference that or ask me for any further details on my trip or my play!
Flights
Flights went well (thank God - last trip I had was the worst flying experience of my life). I flew on AA with a small layover in Dallas.
Stopped off at TGIF for a tall blue moon, or two ;), with dinner on my layover:
Love flying in to Vegas at night...
Transportation
I acquired a rental car from EZ Rent-A-Car. It was fairly straight forward and "EZ" process. Glad I got a Nissan because that's what I actually drive and I like them, although for $30 more I could have ran around town in a mustang convertible!
First Night
Since I'm picking up my brother and parents in the morning (don't worry - this is still a very AP trip for me with plenty of time lined up to play) I don't plan on being out all too late tonight. I'm staying somewhat near the middle of the strip in a comped room and will probably play a decent BJ game and possibly throw some low limit craps at Harrahs or O'Sheas. I'm also picking up my $50 in free play, and will pick up another $75 between my brother and myself tomorrow when we check in to "our" comped room for the week/weekend. Now, they gave me the option to have free plays for table games or free slot play. I really don't play slots, but understand there's AP plays to be made on video poker. Which do you believe would have been worth more; the table free play, or the slot free play? I actually think the video poker route with proper strategy, but opted for the table play since that's where my expertise lye, and the EV for my time not having to learn BS for VP.
I'll attempt to keep the pictures of the games flowing! Full disclosure: I might mix up the exact timeline of places/events so I can't be tracked to being at a certain place at a certain time. However, these will still be fairly accurate updates, and since I'm out here once or twice a year without players cards to most places I will try to do literal love updates from some places!
Honey... I'm home =)
...and so it begins =).
I might try to hop on some tables for a little bit, and I'll give a short update if I do, but having to pick people up tomorrow morning it might not be a late night. More updates tomorrow for sure!

I'm not an expert AP but from what I have seen and heard, there is little to no chance of AP Video Poker on the Strip. Still a great game to kick back with a beer; especially when you pull a royal flush...
Not too much to report as I only had a couple hours. I'm somewhat near the middle of the strip so I decided to wander to find any kind of "decent" 6 deck game I could. I wasn't surprised to see all the 6-5 blackjack, but I was surprised to not find any S17 games and VERY few 3-2 games at about 5 different places I checked out. I even went to the Mirage because they have a listed $15 S17 6 deck game. So much for that?
Anyways I wondered to a neighboring casino and the best I saw was $10, 3-2, H17, 6 deck with surrender. I'm aware this has a HE of ~.54, but the other playing condition I saw was under 1 deck was getting cut off consistently! So I played 7 shoes I believe. Nothing much to write he about... The counts were slightly negative just about the whole time, however I was having some okay variance and winning my min bets for the most part, so yay. I only had 4 bets all night I believe that I bet 4x min. 20 = win, blackjack = win, dealer bust = win, and a surrender = loss. Then a new dealer came in, who was actually a really good and fun dealer, but he hit 21 seven out of 10 hands. I was up about $150, but this put me at up $100, and with having to get up in 6 hours from right now, I decided to start off night one with a win, albeit a small one :).
Only other slightly interesting things was the guy at my table for the first few shoes progressive betting 25-400, and winning but still claiming he was down for the day. There was also a very cute Asian American woman at my table who's an RN. I was more business tonight, otherwise I might have taken a shot ;). Another lady at my table was consistently betting the side bet and beer hit it once. Everyone else (besides me - I don't play unbeatable side bets) kept hitting it now and then and this woman just wanted to hit it once and it just never happened; I felt bad for her. She did manage a 6 card 21 though!
Bought in for 300, cashed out for 4:
I'll be sure in future sessions to get se good chip porn :p. I need to play a few places so I can mix up the timeline just a little bit.
Quote: hwccdealerHow the hell did you get away with taking a picture there? Most casinos don't seem to allow it in my experience.
Stealth, I presume.
Good report!
The photos and your struggles to find a good game are excellent - it is good to know you are on the lookout for good game conditions.
I look forward to the next update!

there isn't. Early in the day on weekdays the s17 pit is 25, and there is $15 and sometimes $10 h17 during the weekday.Quote: RomesQuote: aceofspadesI am loving the trip report thus far... ...I look forward to the next update!

Day Two - Part 1
Well day two has been interesting, to say the least. I picked up the fam from the airport, we stopped by chipotle, then it was off to hunt some games. I know of some good strip games, but went 0 for 8 checking them out. This was at about noon, so I don't know if that was too close to peak hours or ???
Stopped by Paris and couldn't find anything worth playing. We decided to play some craps. I play Don't Pass and a few DC's normally. If someone's hot I'll back off or go Pass line. I switched a few times and did okay, but it was a house day. Neither side was winning because all my DC's got picked off then 7 out, so I slowly bled away about $150 before calling quits.
Decided to head back to the same game from last night to check the PEN and it was consistently less than a deck again! Decided to play and this were going well after the first few shoes. Up about $250 and nt too many good counts, just making hands. Then they changed the dealer...
Played about 5 more shoes, with great counts in each shoe! RC +8 with less than a deck once even! But variance was not on my side and I mosty lost every one of my big bets. I swear the dealer 6 up was the worst thing all day. ALWAYS had a 4 or 5 under then nailed 20/21. Dropped another $350 and my $250 I was up betting big and just losing every big bet =/.
Trip total -$500 now. Grabbing some food, migt have a few drinks and then we'll see what we can get in to tonight... Which will be Part 2!
Edit: Ny dad plays 1-2 NL Hold 'Em and apparently hit a straight flush, obviously winning the hand and a $200 hand bonus!
Sorry it's sideways, I don't know how to rotate it off hand ont phone.

This last trip I made, I found a 100%+ VP progressive on the Strip. But this is also the first one I ever ran across on the Strip in my limited amount of looking. I'll post it up in my Trip Report soon. As far as possibly being better taking free slot play vs. table play, it depends on how the table game promo chips are treated. If the promo chip turns into a real chip when you win, then it makes no difference, but if the promo chip is just taken away when you win, then the same amount of slot play is much, much better.
Good start Romes!
FYI, 7/5 Triple Bonus Plus (97.67% max) is usually the best bartop choice for Caesars properties. But a Double Double Bonus like strategy is a better strategy to use in that game.
The exact strategy can be found here.

Good thing you included the photo. I thought you walked away with four white chips...
Loving the trip report so far.
Looking forward to meeting you Sunday. 😊
Oh, what a night... So the fam and I headed downtown; the rest of them haven't seen the light show. My dad loves poker and I wanted him to see/play Binions. So we parked and stopped off at our first play. My parents were watching then my dad knows i know what I'm doing so he said he wanted to play. Then my mom claims she wanted to do shots so she sat down too. I'm sorry, but I think it's weird and hilarious that I was sitting at a blackjack table taking shots and counting with my parents. My dad wanted to hit his 14 to dealer 6 a few times, but refrained upon my strong suggestion with out big bets out.
It was a ton of fun to play with them all, and we kept pounding the shots (but my play did not waiver from perfect). We all did pretty well each winning at least a few hundred! Time to head out and see the light show!
edit: This is not me in the picture, as I took the picture =p.
Downtown was surprisingly packed and festive on a Wednesday night, I'm sure the 6-7 shots and beers helped it be festive too (I have a high tollerence so I was buzzed but not hammered drunk).
The Christening
So one of the things on my "todo" was break a particular cherry of mine. If you read my other thread or earlier in this thread then you know what I'm referring to... We headed down to the Cortez single deck game and played away. I was betting 5-50 and we got away playing for a couple hours. I think this had to do with several factors. One, my parents were with us, and I would think counting isn't normally a family affair. Two, I was playin with a fair amount of cover plays, that I don't normally make. And lastly, it appeared as though I was quite drunk. To their credit though, after chugging 3 more beers in front of them right when I walked in, I was kind of drunk at that point! They also weren't all that mean about it, just came up and told me I was flat betted and walked away. I didn't protest as there was no point.
The 3 notable things:
1) On the 2nd shoe the first time I upped my bet the PB counted down the discards. From that point on, for the next 2 hours, I had a PB watching specifically me (my family was spreading too but they were very clearly staring at me).
2) so after a while my parents wanted to leave and I wanted to see what I could get away with; I started spreading with no cover anymore. That lasted about 2 shoes when I placed a $60 bet, won it, then was immediately flat betted.
3) The funnier thing, in my opinion, was that my brother was down a little due to some bad variance, so he just sat out until I ramped and he started wonging in betting quarters. Again, they never even looked at him because they were preoccupied sweating my "big" action.
There was even some poppies betting like $25-$100, so I def wasn't their biggest action. Anyways, it was a great time and some money was made. I was just happy my parents made some money as this was really the first time they saw what I've talked about for 8-9 years live.
So my parents take off to head back to our hotel, but my brother and I stick around to play some more places. Next place we went I got shuffled on in the 2nd shoe when I upped my bet. This was the only mistake I made all night I believe... I didn't realize until after we took off when we got shuffled on, but the bet I put out causing the shuffle was 12-1; definitely a bit high. We played another place after that with some up and down, but got a nice count and crushed the last shoe for a good profit, then called it a night =).
Lastly, since we're doing more than AP plays... My brother and I headed for late night drunk food. This, in it's own is a Vegas experience because everyone there at 3-4am is absolutely hammered. Heading back to our hotel I saw some decently dressed kid passed out on the strip. Then we also saw some guys yelling and screaming at each other starting a fight; oh Vegas. Sorry I couldn't get any pics, my phone died downtown =(.
Trip total: -$150

What's the house edge on this game to begin with again?

0.16 - 0.18
The badge of honor is true. Cortez backs you off in a heartbeat but doesn't go over board.
The single and double deck games exist so they can claim best blackjack in Vegas.
Well today has been a nice day. Slept in, hit the pools (which were rather hopping) then met up with the Wizard!
It was awesome to meet up, laugh about the Cortez, and I was interested in seeing what he was currently in to, betting wise. Without divulging too much, not sure if he wants details shared, we made some sports bets, chatted a bit, then he had the radio show later and I had a couple places I wanted to check out. I ended up findin a really nice game that isn't on any of the games lists I've seen =D. Played there for a while and was up about $200, then lost some big bets in a VERY nice count...
TC +6
Hand: 8-8
Dealer: 2
I split, and got another 8! Te 3 hands played as follows:
1) 8-7, stay
2) 8-Ace, stay
3) 8-3.. Double and got a 5 =/
Dealer turns over 2-3, draws a 7 for 12, then a 4 for 16. At this poit I'm thinking there's LITERALLY no more small cards left! Apparently I was off by one, because the dealer pulled a 5 for 21 and swiped all of my bets =/. After that I was down at that table and thought if but for more if I dropped my remaining hundred. With some good variance I had a good min bet shoe, ten the following one got hot and I hit two blackjacks with half max and 3/4 bets! So I ended up cashing out up $150.
After playing we decided to get some food at the Hash House someone recommended as NLT to expensive and grea burgers. Indeed the burger was fantastic!
Taking a quick breather in the room to update and relax, then heading out later to hit the tables. My brother is really feeling some craps so I think we might do 50/50 BJ/craps tonight! Depends how the craps is going :p, I won't blow very much of my BR at all on craps. Hopefully I have something good to report when heading to bed tonight!
Trip (gambling only): EVEN
Can I put in a request for a pic of the Bellagio fountains? I know they're all over the web but it brings me back to simple pleasures of grabbing a piña colada from the entrance of Treasure Island (highly recommended) and just strolling back down the Strip to NYNY. If only it was less than a 14 hour flight...
Have a great trip in any case

Can I put in a request for a pic of the Bellagio fountains?
Ha it was a huge thing of cheese and bacon mash potatoes. I pounded the burger and got about half way through the potatoes :p.
Request granted! Do you want a day pic or a night pic?
I also thought it was a piece of plastic but couldn't figure out what was going on there. The berg looks absolutely to die for though.Quote: wudgedThat is some creepy looking cheese on the potatoes. It looks like vinyl cushion covering from a chair.
Quote: chickenmanI also thought it was a piece of plastic but couldn't figure out what was going on there. The berg looks absolutely to die for though.
I thought the same when they brought it out, but they just cooked the cheese on top. The burger and potatoes were both VERY good. Just a ton of food!
Not too many pictures as it was a fristrating evening unfortunately. Played some craps and just got destroyed for $200, then played some decent BJ games and got MURDERED! Dropped $800 over about 4 hours. I think I lost 85-90% of my doubles. Every bet more than the min I put out for 3-4 hours straight the dealer gt the 20/21. Good timing, wrong hand was the story of the night. Called it a slight early night at 2:00am and headed to bed to regroup and rest up for today.
Plan on trying to find some PLO or play some 2-5 NL today (as well as BJ). Mathematically it's smarter for me to play poker as I usually have an opponent at much more than a 5% disadvantage when we get the chips in, but I got a little burned out from it through and after college. Feeling good about it today though, haven't played in a bit and I would rate my chances of success equal to or greater than BJ :).
Chillin by the fountains people watching with the fam, in the new walkway to the observation wheel for a bit, then off to play it is!
Should be a fun night. My brother and I are planning in dominating some beer pong at O'sheas and might be heading out to a club tonight. I just need to find some promoters on the strip so we can get free cover and maybe even one free $9 beer :p.
Will update later!
I'm also intrigued as to how the clubbing goes. My mates and I were very suspicious of the promoters on the strip offering 'Free entry, free limo, free drinks'. The unanswered question was 'what is the catch?'
Cheers

Will do tomorrow during the day then :p.
Usually the free limo, cover, and a drink or two is for the STRIP clubs; not clubs on the strip. The catch is most guys but more drinks and expensive lap dances! It's a fantastic deal if you're in town and planing to go one. When I was here for a friends bachelor party 3-4 years ago we did that and it was awesome. Fun fact I learned from that experience: apparently there's not a "no touching" rule as there is where I live. First thing the girl did was put my hands on her, and it seemed like a decent classy place with very gorgeous girls.
A couple buddies whom are in town agreed to get bottle service at the Marquee in Cosmo, so that might end up being tomorrow night. I'll probably get in to "something" tonight, so we'll see.
Day 4
Variance is not on my side. We traveled to the very nice Venetian and played in their impressive poker room.
I played 2-5 PLO. I don't know how to not sound pretentious, but to say the least I've been told by pro's that I'm a top level Omaha player. The reason I don't play it a lot more now you ask? I fight for a 5% advantage in BJ and am fairly EV over the years. Near the end of my college/poker career, I consistently found that I got my money in good with at least 15-20% advantages, or more and just lose consistently. I don't want to get in to the poker career so much, I get the good and bad runs like BJ, I just started getting burnt out because I played more hands by 23 than most professionals of any age. So here's the poker today:
I doubled through about 15 minutes in as most of the PLO games consist of people buying in for $10k and trying to coin flip you out of $500. I got in solid with a set vs very obvious aces, so that got me up to about $1100. After some small pots I was up to about $1300 when the first big hand happened. I once again deduced I was up against aces (for those of you who don't play Omaha aces are NOT nearly as strong as they are in hold em and hold me players ALWAYS over value them). Not that it was difficult though, we started slamming each other preflop. But, I had A-A-7-6 double suited, so I liked my hand over his aces and random cards.
I flop a 7, nothing else, chop so far, turn 6, which both 2 pairs me and gives me the nut flush draw. At this point he has nothing but AA, no pairs, no draws. He's drawing EXTREMELY thin (and can't even win, only chop). River pairs the board, and of course not my flush, so we chop the $2600 pot.
Not "so" bad since it got in and I was about a 10% favorite, with a huge portion of the hand % to chop. About an hour later, same guy and I get in to another hand. He was one of my targets as he's the type of player that is "decent," but thinks he's a pro, which leads him to overplay things (and I saw him do it a couple times). He raises preflop, a couple callers, I call with 9-8-4-4 double suited. A little weaker call, but I was on the button and getting 4-1 with 2 weak players in the hand. A key note here, he just min raised to 10, the last guy after me re-raised to $20, no doubt testing the original raiser for aces. He just calls, so this is a very good indicator he does not have aces.
Flop: A-7-4, two spades. So I have a set and flush draw. Under the gun original raiser pots for about $100. Everyone folds to me, and with one player behind me I opt to raise, about another $200 over. He hesitates maybe 5 seconds the. Throws a black stack in to show a pot re-raise. I pause to really reconstruct preflop and assure myself he doesn't have aces. My gut is he has something like A-K-Q-x and he's trying to rep aces now.
So I decide to repot to stuff my ~$1600 in. He calls and shows A-K-J-7, for 2 pair. With 4-5 people in the pot, not a very stronger hand. Hell I was slightly nervous about bottom set until everyone in front of me folded. He has no draws, so he has 3 outs as the guy to my right shouts he folded an ace. So with 3 outs twice he's approximately 14% to win he hand. The turn comes a K, giving 2 more outs. So he has 5 outs to the river, drawing thin to say the least. River, case ace for both his and my full house, with mine losing. There goes a ~$3k pot... when I was an 86% favorite.
I decide I'm done gambling for today and need some alone time (since Wed morning I've been with my brother or the whole fam). So I watched a movie in my room and decided to update now :).
On the up and up feeling relaxed and refreshed. My brother is still ready to go out and play some pong at O'sheas or something, we'll see!

That claim seems extraordinary, but I don't have any counter-facts. Perhaps that is your advantage at the point that the count is right, but not on average? Seems like I've heard the margin overall is slim, less than 1%, even with the best situations.

Forgot the decimal point?
Quote: 1BBForgot the decimal point?
On "average" each TC I'd worth "about" .5% to the player. So for TC 5, which I just hit in a DD game about 5 min ago, it's approximately 2.5% in favor of the player for the HE. I did overstate a bit, but was just showing a point of the narrow advantage I take in BJ and how I win more often with that than I do with a 20-60%+ edge in poker.
I'll update on last night / today later!
Looking forward to more stories...and my Bellagio pic!
