While you fix it I'll say that, for a very few knowledgeable players, side bets are profitable. For the masses, the possibility of quick money, attempt to recoup blackjack losses, comradery, fun, peer pressure, dealer pressure and the ease of making a wager and not worrying about having to make a playing decision.

I'll keep my comments to side bets in general.
A common refrain from dealers and players alike is that you must play them every hand. How would you feel if you hit and didn't have the money up? Gotcha! With a house edge several times that of the blackjack game, things can go south quickly. Play 70 or more hands per hour at $5 per side bet and the math speaks for itself. No, you are not due unless you are counting one of the few beatable side bets. Even then you'll have your ups and downs.
Now how can I get dealers, players and even bystanders to stop pointing out that I would have won if only I'd played?
Do I detect a bit of animosity among game developers here or is it just good old fashioned competition?

I want to punch people in the face when they comment about how I should be playing them. I will admit that I will play them. When I sit down I will put $30 aside and play $5 a hand. I will put all winnings from the side back into that same pile. Whenever that money runs out I am done playing them. There have been more than a handful of times where my $200 buy in from BJ was gone but I still have over $100 in my side pile. There are a few side bets that I will not play at all like lucky ladies and the 3 card that pays 9-1 on all wins. I hate that a str flush pays the same as a flush.
A few months ago I was dealt QhQh while not playing it. The 3 people at my table cried about it for the next hour.

Elliot Frome was/is SHFL's go-to mathematician. He's supposed to tow the line.
A nice ad always embeds in good material.Quote: ShineyShineI think the point he makes about players being more concerned with the high paying odds rather than the nature or theme of the side bet is a good one.

Be that as it may, I think Elliot is like Lenny was. Honest and upfront at all times. I also think he is doing more reviewing new game submissions now than Pacman at shfl/bally/ who's next ?
I would add "Lucky Stiff", "3 to 1 Blackjack" & the original version of "Shortie" to the list of BJ side bets that add a skill decision to the side bet proposition. My biased opinion is that the skill based side bet propositions are the new wave of side bets and will find their niche alongside the "dollar & a prayer" side bets currently in play.
