In casinos where the dealer doesn't initially take a hole card, what happens when a heads up player busts? Is a hole card ever dealt and immediately burned?

The few times I have played that version of the game, I think the dealer dealt their own hand completely, to a total => 17, bust or not.

I think I had the opposite experience, the dealer didn't draw any more cards.

It can vary based upon house rules and/or local regulations.
More and more will not deal the cards because that will only mean a shuffle will come sooner. And casinos like more hands per hour...

P.S. Doesn't matter if its heads up or not. As long as all players bust...
On the other hand, if there's a side bet that involves the dealer playing out his hand, he may be required to play it out, even if there's no action on the side bet.

In the one I've seen the dealer does not complete his/her hand if all player hands busted unless there were any insurance bets out (in which case the dealer would take a card to determine whether or not there is a blackjack) or other side bets out that are dependent on the dealer's hand. (Likewise if the only other hands out were blackjacks the dealer would take a second card only when a ten or ace was showing, to see if the BJ would push instead of win.)
