Been hovering around this board and other sites for a short time, and now, starting to need some questions answered. Sorry, for the noob Q's but have to start somewhere.
I've seen a couple of different Blackjack Basic Strategy engines. So the real question is,
-What is the difference between the 2 below?
-Is one no longer suitable for today?
-If both still functional, when is the best time to use the other?
-Is there a question I didn't ask?
Strategy Engines (appears linking isn't aloud)
- Blackjackinfo (site) Blackjack Basic Strategy (haven't counted, but looks to have a MUCH higher combination of variables then wizards?)
- Wizardofodds (site) Blackjack Basic Strategy
AND, for most casinos, which is the most of game played? The combination of all the different strategies is vast, which are the ones (strategies) to focus on the most (for US)? Or do you guys really remember all of those?
It seems there are really two aspects you are dealing with.
One is a short moniker for humans to use and the other is a more complex set of rules that actually define the strategy.
Unfortunately peoples math skills vary as do their concentration skills and efforts when at a casino.
So there are various: Basic Strategy and Adjusted Basic Strategy monikers. As well as various modification to the rules based on the actual game involved, ie, number of decks and rule variations regarding splits and soft hands.
When you go back to the early sixties in Vegas and that MIT guy Thorpe with his Beat The Casino best seller ...its a real stroll down memory lane but it doesn't exist anymore. In the stroll I see every damn table in Las Vegas emblazoned with Dealer must draw to 16 and stop on all 17s. And I see the faces of all the dealers who if they ever drew a card on a soft 17 would have gone home and put a bullet in their head rather than endure the shame and disgrace of hitting a soft 17. Now I wander the back alleys and gutters as well as The Strip ... and its almost impossible to find a game wherein the dealer does not hit a soft 17, yet some of those darned strategy cards in the gift shop still are designed for a situation that rarely exists any longer.
Quote: 1BBGame for game both sites have the same basic strategy. You may be looking at the Wizard's simple strategy that has most but not all of the moves of the full strategy. Learn the full version.
Full version, meaning the more combination sets at blackjackinfo? of on Wizards site... looked at Wizards site and only seen their 'basic', provide link if possible.
But, which of all of the combinations should be studied more? 288 possible variations on blackjackinfo (yes, I did count, and that is only for peek)

I would recommend never taking a card that will bust the hand. 4% disadvantage, but well worth pissing off all the players at the table.

The paragraph below the Simple Strategy chart which you have found is titled Basic Strategy. It has links to basic strategy charts for all the common sets of rules. As previously recommended, I'd start with the link to "4 or more decks", and use the chart for "dealer hits on soft 17".
Amazon has BS cards that fit in your wallet, ( I think from BJinfo) for each and every game, you can also make your own.
Yes I still take them when I go to vegas, just to review before I play a different game. Not sure that it matters that much, as I am well aware that I cannot win at BJ, but I can lose less !!
If you are in Vegas you will not find a S17 game for less than 25 min.
There are really not that many differences in BS for the most part
SD-offered a few places, do not be a ploppy and play 6/5 !!
DD- H17/(S17 100 Min. !) Tropicana, if I remember correctly has DD S17 w/ RSA ,.14 HE but for 100 min. ( bring your BR !)
( A few places offer the S17 DD 100 min, no RSA)
6/8D - H17/S17 w/ S, you can find the H17 w/ S for 10-15 min on the strip and the S17 w/ S for 25-50 min. on the strip.
I tend to play the best game I can find for the lowest min. which is typically the: 6/8D - H17/ w/ S on the strip
Unless you want to go to El Cortez , SD for 5 min. ( but who wants to go there) or if you want terrible go to Terribles
( DD for 5 min)
I had a great time though at the above 2 establishments !:)
Since I have been in/around the strip so much the past few years, I tend to prefer some smaller houses w/ a great DD for 5-10 min.
Gold Coast, Silverton, South Point, and the Orleans ( love this place !!)
My 2 cents, but what do I know !
