I noticed that the current survey is nearly a year old and I am wondering if anybody knows if and when a new survey will be released.

I'm not sure why this is a poll as only one person can answer the question. I'm going to guess and vote no new survey. There's less interest in blackjack here than other games and conditions change by the minute so it would never be accurate. It would also be very time consuming and prone to mistakes if many different people reported in.

I started keeping my own blackjack survey last year. At the end of each session I take notes on the rules, pen, dealers, bet spread, and anything else worthwhile. When I get home (or to the room) I input the data into a google spreadsheet. I sort the data by casino and date. I can access the data on my phone via google drive. My spreadsheet contains 54 different casinos from 2012.

I'm just a recreational player- the "work" takes a small amount of time, and it's worth it.

Can we turn this into a group effort? Where is the guy with the casino directory project?

It think the days of one source go to trustworthy information are over. Things change too fast. So what if things are not 100% accurate wiki style - it is better than nothing.

Would you be open to giving/selling it to me?

Keeping the survey up to date is an enormous task. Weighing the cost to my time and the benefit, it isn't worth it. I have considered just taking the survey down.

If you are interested in current blackjack news, you can subscribe to Stanford Wong's Current Blackjack News!

Okay, that was silly. Seriously though, CBJN is the best source for this stuff, and like most good things in life, it ain't free. I have found the info for my local casinos to be semi-accurate and sometimes very, very old. I'm guessing the Vegas info is more current, but as I don't live there and can't check the veracity of it, I don't know for sure. But it is definitely more up-to-date than the Wizard's survey.

I think this would be a cool project.. As much play that everyone in this forum plays we could all contribute what we can. It may not always be 100% accurate but having something is better than nothing in my opinion

I've been kicking around the idea of a crowdsourced competitor to CBJN. Members pay a monthly fee to cover site maintenance, etc. Reporters earn points that reduce their monthly fee, but can have points taken away if other members out their data for inaccuracies. Think "GasBuddy for Blackjack."

How about just a Google spreadsheet where invited contributors can make changes but anyone with the link can view? Something like: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtxW1ImXRyhbdDZzeUctT0Q4SkZVNUlyOG4tWGxQYkE&usp=sharing

(I put in a bit of data that I knew off the top of my head)

Hmm...well, if anyone wants to be a contributor, let me know, and I'll give you editing privileges. And Wizard, if the data in there actually becomes comprehensive and reliable at some point, you can copy it freely. In fact, if that happens, let me know the ideal format for easy transfer.

I think it's a decent idea. One problem with Wong's CBJN newsletter is that the main audience and the main source of the information is advantage players, and advantage players are necessarily greedy with information. To that end, and considering the paltry compensation offered by Wong, a lot of the information falls out of date. Obviously really juicy opportunities (like hole-card flashers, +EV off-the-top promotions, etc.) aren't listed as a matter of course, but something like a new game goes in with better than average rules or pen, I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't get reported. This definitely happens around my local area.

But if you are aiming more at recreational gamblers, they don't care much about propagating information about the rules. It will definitely still be very much "best-effort" unless you offer compensation, of course.

True...but hopefully there are enough people willing to put in that effort simply to have an updated resource for free. I'm not an advantage player but would still like to avoid walking from casino to casino in the heat trying to find good rules.
