Quote: boblueredI heard that many of the motel rooms in Tunica still smell from the flood. Does anyone have info on the subject?
I have been to Tunica 4 times since the flood. I don't think most casino hotels have issues, but I never have been put on the first floor either. I can't speak for the random motels in town though (Days Inn, Best Western, etc.).

Tunica smells cause its in Mississippi. Ever been
there? In the summer your life expectancy outdoors
is about 36 hours.

they still have that?
and yeah outdoors in the summer = eaten alive by mosquitoes!
Yes, bugs can be a problem in the summer, but that's why God made deet.
Quote: tsmithThe flood was almost 2 years ago and most of the casinos and hotels remained dry anyway. I go to Tunica about 9 times a year -- I was there a couple of months after the flood waters receded -- and I've never encountered a problem with anything smelling like stale river water. That's not to say that a hotel room can't smell bad because of other things ...

tsmith is correct. I go there all the time. I think the only hotel that actually got any water in it was the bottom floor(s) at Harrahs hotel that is attached to the casino. I have stayed in it a couple of times and no smell from flood.

Doubt it. :P

Jeez, in my mind the flood was in 2012, not 2011...lol I have probably been to Tunica at least 8 times since then and was there the weekend they reopened and noticed no issues. I have also stayed in motels at times since the flood. They seemed okay too. But I don't ever think I was on the first floor for any of those rooms either. I would assume ground floors would have the worst possible damage, but I think most buildings stayed pretty dry.
It was the first time those casinos had been closed since they opened in 1993. Some of them didn't even have a way to locks their doors. I think Fitz got the worst of it because they're closest to the river but all the parking lots were lakes for a week or so.
A month after the water receded you couldn't even tell anything had happened.

Pretty much. Except when we were at Resorts/Hollywood when it reopened, there was a mini lake to the left of the Hollywood parking lot. We have to thank Resorts for cancelling my reservation by telephone with 48 hour notice because we booked the Sat-Mon the casinos were beginning to flood too. We had reservations for the Terrace Hotel at Harrah's Sun. and Mon. and those jerks at Harrah's were going to keep the hotel open and strand us with nothing to do if we didn't learn about it from Resorts first. Fitz definitely got hit hard, they still have the pictures up.
And it looks like we rebooked and ran to Harrah's North Kansas City instead. :) I also picked up Mizzou's and KU's newspapers highlighting the death of Osama Bin Laden that trip. First time I ever visited KU and it made me clearly glad I was a Mizzou alum instead.
