Let’s start with this: It’s probably a good idea for a casino to have a buffet.

...And go from there.

Let me give you a glimpse into the customer service you can expect in the lame duck phase of the Ocean as it changes ownership.

On Sunday, the Chiefs and the Patriots ended regulation tied in the AFC championship, airing in the late window of the NFL's championship Sunday, which is usually the second-most-watched TV programming of the year.

The main lounge in Ocean was full of premium casino card holders watching the game and rooting for their teams. As the coin was flipped to start overtime, the lounge televisions were turned off because it was "time for the lounge to close."

Apparently keeping the lounge open another 15 minutes (without serving further food or drink) was not an option for the sorry excuse of management at the Ocean. Patrons were asked to leave just as overtime was beginning...and one was forcibly removed by security and forced through an emergency exit.

I cannot fathom a competing casino-hotel, or even any local bar or restaurant, that would serve guests for 6 hours during the NFL's championship weekend and then kick everyone out just as a game was entering overtime.

Let's hope the new owners have a clue about hospitality and how to treat customers with common sense and decency or this beautiful place will be soon closed again.

Nor can I. You can have bums or rich customers, but you treat them well.

Frayed carpeting repaired with duct tape, ground in grime, elderly servers, "tray lizards" fully clothed, ... all can be forgiven, but not thoughtless discourtesy.

If the game goes into overtime; so does the bartender. I can understand 'last call for grill orders' but the bar stays open and the lights stay on and no one gets shooed out the door while the referee is just about to blow the whistle and announce something.

It is like that minister who put in the church newsletter: The Youth Ministry meeting will begin at xx:xx unless the game goes into overtime in which case the meeting will begin at xx:xx. there are priorities in life.

Wow.

Apparently, the Ocean management is too young to have heard about the Heidi Game.

Their promotions always seem to rollout with problems. This past weekend they targeted players to earn a certain level of comps and get a free tv. I played one day and think I was a little short. I came back the day of redemption and wanted to check the status. I clicked on it on the kiosk thinking it would give me my status and it reedemed it at the lower one even though . I went to the promotions desk. They said don’t worry your host put you in for the higher one. Hopefully they get it right.

I have previously mentioned they need some more quick serve places. The pizza and sub place is ok. The service there is very slow.

If I am not mistaken (as Ocean changes its dining schedules frequently), there is a period between 2 am and 6 am on weekdays when no prepared food whatsoever is available for purchase anywhere on the property. Which is a little crazy for a 24-hr "resort."

This is true of many casinos. Penn National just remodeled their whole food court. Only one place stays open after 11pm, even Friday and Saturday. I don’t understand why casinos dont have food options late night. In my experience food outlets at casinos are poorly run. Few things bother me more than a business that has as many customers as they want but they don’t care to get done as much as they can.

Difference is that Penn National is not positioning itself as a world-class resort, whereas Revel/Ocean does (as recently as last week in its press release) and has never delivered.

Let me know the next time Bellagio or Caesars Palace doesn't have a place to eat overnight.
