If a player like yourself is charged Resort Fees, they will be open a shorter time than Revel was.

Resort Fees have infested hotels across the country and most don’t have casinos attached to allow a player to bypass them.

I await an offer from Ocean AC -- I still cannot find out if, in the purchase, they gained access to the former list of players and their tier levels - I was the highest tier level at Revel - but, since this is a new place, not sure they will know or care enough to send me a comp offer

So, I give them $20 and they give me "free" wifi? That's special.

Why single out Ocean ?

They all do it now. And $20 is on the cheap side.

I can't get over the idea that they take my money and then return services to me for "free". So, my money bought me...?

it's a big deal if the fee here is unavoidable. nobody charges a resort fee to high-level players' card holders, almost nobody charges a resort fee on a comped room. If this $20 really applies to *all* reservations, then this is a large step in the wrong direction.

I HATE resort fees just as much as everyone else. But it burns a little less if they actually include something of value.

A non-casino resort I recently stayed at had a $20 resort fee that included:

- Two bottles of water when your room is cleaned
- $10 daily dry cleaning credit
- $10 daily Spa Credit
- USA Today or Wallstreet Journal delivered to your room
- Pool/Gym/WiFi Access
- A bucket of balls at the resort golf course driving range
- Shuttle Service

That is almost worth it, but I would rather be given the option to opt out all together.

By far the stupidest resort fee policy I have ever seen is with CET. The resort fee includes WiFi, so if you are a Diamond member and get the resort fee waived, you have to pay for WiFi access. WTF?? CET really knows how to treat their mid-high rollers.

No - although you have to go through the pay process (bill to room) when a Diamond member at CET, no charges will show up on for it on your room - there is no resort fee or WiFi fee for Diamond (per my recent stay at The Cromwell)

Thanks I will try that next time. I’m pretty sure that hasn’t always been the case in AC but maybe I’m wrong.

Be proactive. Once you find out who the hosts are just contact them and let them know about your previous play including other locations you have lots of action at.

I don't think you need as big of action as you think to get an independent host who would negotiate for you.

About two months ago, Linq (Diamond): General front desk told me that wifi was free for everybody now and Diamond gets unlimited devices. Two days and a total of 11 device-days. Later, I have to complain at Diamond checkout to get it removed. Both were incorrect. No resort fee.

Also about two months ago, whenever that slot tournament was, Rio: Diamond check-in tells me that internet is now included for everybody, up to 2 devices per day. No problem. No resort fee.

The resort fee at $20 is one of the lower ones in town. Not a big deal.

As for access to the Revel database - they have it. Give Ocean a call and mention you had a card with Revel.
Certain players that met their qualifications, they are offering comp and casino rated rooms for resvervations beginning 6/28.

Edited to add Ocean Resort Casino phone number: (609) 783-8000.

In two years going as Diamond in AC, I have yet to be charged for using their wifi. I log in, select basic, and never see any charges.

As to Revel, I was never a big player there, but got comped rooms and free play. I called to check rates, figuring they had my info but unaware they were asking, and they gave me a horrible rate. I don't get comps at Water Club, just Borgata, but I could get a WC room cheaper than they wanted. I loved Revel, but no way am I paying $144 for a room there, plus taxes and fees. ESPECIALLY when Hard Rock gave me that same night for free, and I can stay elsewhere in the city comped.

I don't generally expect anything for free at a "new" place, but I think considering the state AC is in you better do whatever you can to get people in your property. Folks are lined up to give Ocean and HR a chance in light of how CET and MLife have treated them. HR bit the bullet and offered up rooms, because they know we are going to play there, otherwise why take the room? Guess Ocean is doing just like Revel and saying, "yeah, they'll come to us eventually".

Never thought someone could be dumber running a casino than Kevin DeSanctis was but if they offer no comp rooms to players with status elsewhere, it’s game over already. I still think they will but time will tell.

I am a little concerned about the state of the rooms at the hotel. That tower sat for how many weeks, months, years with no or intermittent electricity / cooling/ heating in one of the most humid climates on the East Coast?

Not to mention, several of the Revel floors / rooms were never even finished.

I would hope that the new owners do a thorough inspection for mold and other environmental problems that could have arisen in the years Revel was dark.

Maybe the mold-inspection certificate is included in the resort fee.

At least the $20 resort fee that includes WIFI is better than the fees my sister paid on a four day cruise. She had to pay a resort fee AND a $40 WIFI fee. Garbage!

The former owner purchased the stand-a-lone power company that supplied electricity for air conditioning to the Revel. He had to purchase it to avoid the problems you mentioned.

Addiction, safety line, hot tip on a horse, peace of mind whatever.

ALL hotels are charging resort fees so as to advertise low rates and evade local occupancy tax levies.

Sometimes its a real rip off sometimes its merely a nuisance but its here to stay.

I don't go to a gym and don't swim very often so why would I want to pay a resort fee but if its included in the price I just may take the time to use it. Once I had Steam room, dry sauna, mini pool with bubbles and showers with three types of goop. I used up enough of each type of goop to get my money's worth on the resort fee. I think I spent about four hours in that spa just to get my moneys worth.

Not to make this a rant about Resort Fees, but I wonder why state/local legislators don't outlaw mandatory hotel fees. Annoying the consumer aside, it seems that states/municipalities are losing boatloads of revenue because of resort fees. Resort fees only incur sales tax, while the room rate is subject to both occupancy and sales taxes. In theory, hoteliers can charge $1 for the room and a $200 resort fee and pay no occupancy tax.

Why do local governments stand for this?

It's been 10 years since I was in AC, but at that time, my CET rooms and resort fees were comped, except for a mandatory $6 NJ occupancy fee per night. Harrahs claimed they were not allowed to comp it or pay it for me. AC Hilton the same.

So perhaps at least some jurisdictions have something in place to not lose that revenue stream.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

One cruise I was on, the daughter signed up for a pay-per-minute plan so she could post photos and whatnot.

She evidently didn't realize that getting notifications on her phone means an active data connection, so six days later, they were treated to something like a 4000$ internet bill.

Oh crap! $4,000 internet bill! O.O That's why you make sure you know exactly what you're getting into! I'd rather just pay the $40 WIFI bill!

The word 'need' is tough to define. But my Fiancee wanted to talk to her daughters on our Greek Cruise last summer, so we bought I think 100 minutes for like $60 so she could face time them. I liked taking a few minutes a day to look at my emails. When we were on shore most restaurants/coffee shops had free WiFi so I did important things like read the continuous freaking out by our members that Trump is actually President....

I am aware of these occurrences so my Fiancee and I always put our phone to airplane mode as soon as we leave the US. For this recent trip to the DR the couple we were with wanted continuous access, so they were able to buy some sort of unlimited plan from AT and T for $10 a day. The hotel had WiFi all over, even at the beach, so it was wasted money.

I'd ask for a charge back if I bought a unlimited data plan only to learn that the hotel gave free WIFI.

I stayed at both the Ocean and Hard Rock AC on comps. At both places I was matched to their higher-level card.

Ocean was completely comped, no fees whatsover.

Hard Rock cost me ~$22.XX per night in taxes and fees and that could NOT be waived, nor could you use comp dollars on your card for it.

The rooms at Ocean were fine. Actually great.

I had the worst experience at Hard Rock.

I waited in the Rock Royalty line for over an hour to get my tier match. The woman kept going in the back for 10-15 minutes at a time to apparently check with her supervisor for something. This went on for 60 minutes. Everyone in the line was PISSED. One woman actually walked behind the counter and started screaming.

After I finally got my tier upgrade, I decided to use the free buffet that came with it. As soon as we got seated the manager came around and said we had 5 minutes before they were taking all the lunch food away.

0/10 not going back to hard rock unless they give me more free stuff

Yep, just stayed at Golden Nugget on a Friday night for $159, the resort fees were more than the taxes and bumped the final tab up to $238!

Good thing I won over $300 over the course of my stay, but dang those resort fees eat up profits like nothing!
