Question for Nathan & Babs -- who is your favorite character in Harry Potter?
For a while there Scandinavian NeoNoir was all that was selling : Police detectives had to be immoral drunkards, rapists, addicts and those were the heroes. Larsen died without a will so his long term lover got zilch and the reatives he had rejected got everything.Quote: beachbumbabsUmmm. No. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Great book. He created interesting characters though the movies were not well done.
My Mother died with a will, her estate was done in six months and distributions went like clockwork.
Her sister couldn't be bothered thinking about it and eighteen months later, not a dime has been distributed and attorneys fees are accumulating.
A simple will can be done online or guys on tv advertise $99 Wills.
Quote: RSNathan gets suspended for "giving bad advice", even though I'd say what she said was objectively true.
McAllister gives actual bad advice and doesn't get suspended? (Not that I think he should have been suspended.) I've been wrong before (VERY RARE!!!!) and I didn't get suspended. I'm sure others have been wrong plenty of times and no suspension. MustangSally has given terrible advice countless times, which I reported, and he wasn't suspended. Seems fair to me...
And let's not pretend that if someone asks a gambling question that they should read the first reply and immediately say, "Well, that's good enough for me, I'mma go play it!" without further thought or asking for more information. If someone is really that stupid, then I think they should just go ahead and do it. Money is better spent in dumb people's hands than really stupid people's hands, as the Ancient Hawaiians used to say.
Here's an idea: If you don't like this thread, either ignore it or block it. If I'm not mistaken, Wizard, el jefe of the forum, has given his blessing on this thread and has allowed Nathan to continue posting. From time to time, he even joins this thread for the discussion.
BTW -- I apologize for not noticing that you were gone for 5 days. I get busy from time to time and haven't been checking into this thread as often as I should be. Although, in my defense, I don't think there's anyone on this forum where if they didn't post for 5 days that I would notice....and even if I did notice, I probably wouldn't mention it until it got to be a bit longer than that.
Thank you, RS! 😆Posts like this is exactly why I chose you as Nathan's Corner Deputy!😆

It depends on the age of the person and their assets. For example, I am 35 and make like $18,000 a year. I don't really HAVE anything to leave in a will in case I die unexpectedly soon. Whereas my great Aunt is like 88 and SHE would most likely have lots of assets if she dies unexpectedly.

Question for Nathan & Babs -- who is your favorite character in Harry Potter?
I don't REALLY love Harry Potter per se, I love using Harry Potter as metaphors. But my favorite HP character is Hermione Granger. She is a bad ass strong young woman who is very resourceful and has saved her friends' lives and even survived a Cruticius(Spelling?) Spell done on her by Bellatrix and STILL kept her sanity.

I have NEVER seen even a single Wawa but for some odd reason, there are like 4 NEW 7-11 stores being built near me. So that's why I sm asking if 7-11 and Wawa are the same store.🤔
Not even close. Wawa is a combination deli-big convenience store-gift shop--gas station. Super-clean, lots of staff, great soup, pretty good other food. I go out of my way to gas there.
7-11 is fine, but varies with the neighborhood.

Wawa, first I saw one, was in NJ on the Black Horse Pike around 2001. It was a magical place, as i was lost and dead broke from overdoing AC.
They started expanding to FL about 2015. Yay! I haven't seen any out west myself. I think they're doing east coast/I95 corridor first, just from observation, but also saw one in Tennessee in Feb so westbound as well.
WaWa is headquartered in Wawa Pennsylvania and is known for its coffee and subs.

Sheetz started in Altoona (Western PA) and Wawa near Philly. Sheetz came East and Wawa moved west in PA and butted heads in the late 90’s near Reading PA and the customer was the winner. Both ran gas margins near zero for years and killed smaller competitors as they survived on the food margins and residual business the cheap gas brought in.
But both realized this wasn’t a good long term strategy and Sheetz started moving south into Maryland, Virginia and the Carolinas. Wawa didn’t expand as fast but rebuilt many of their smaller store in PA and NJ into superstores.
In the past few years Wawa became aggressive again and jumped over Sheetz in the mid south and directly into Florida. Having a history with transplants from PA, NY and NJ they had instant name recognition and built stores bigger than Racetrac, Speedway and 7-11 in Florida. They are thriving from Orlando to Tampa and are growing at a huge pace, as one of the biggest buyers of retail property in state under 3 acres. The expansion down to the Miami area and across the state makes sense.
As for 7-11, they recently purchased the Sunoco retail locations in the Northeast in a losing battle to stay relevant.
You will be very shocked when you visit your first Wawa, Nathan.
Quote: BozOk, time for C-Store history from the PA big 2 and their plans. Sheetz and Wawa are the 2 leaders and while they don’t have the most locations, but no other chain in the country can match these 2 for their Food programs. They have changed what customers think of C-Store food with Sheetz and their MTO program (Made to Order) and Wawa with their Hoagies and expanded offerings. If you have never visited either, you really can’t compare them to any store out there. And a 7-11 or APlus with pre-packaged microwaved sandwiches isn’t close.

Sheetz was for awhile taking over western PA. Howver GetGo which is Giant Eagle's (grocery store) is opening locations everywhere and they are doing food just like sheetz and almost comparable. They also offer food perks so everytime you get gas you earn money off of food and when you buy food you get money off of gas.
My best AP move ever happened two years ago at Getgo. When you bought $50 in gift cards you recieved .20 off each gallon of gas upto 30 gallons. They forgot to exclude Visa cards. They had a $200 Visa card that cost 4.95. You would earn $0.80 in perks per gallon up to 30. So buying that card would get you $24 in gas for $19 profit. I bought every single one that the surrounding 12 stores had. You could use the 200 card to buy the next one. I ended up buying something like 300 of them. I did it on my dad's card too as his xmas present. When they would circle it and say you have $120 in perks. Then I would get the wholly crap. It was always funny.
Anyways we are lucky in this area to have Sheetz and GetGo for food options. Prices are good and food is decent

I thought of doing that play on the Visa but figured there had to be a catch. Sadly AMZN cards are no longer available on that program, not a huge deal for me but it was a good play, save 6-12% when you factored in the free gas. Giant Eagle is supposedly the largest gift card program in the USA now. My buddy laughs at the gas cans by my porch. I said to keep laughing, they have saved me over $600 and counting.

I had $1.50 expire on me last month because I didn't realize it was the end of the month. I was so mad. I can believe it about their giftcards. I hear that they charge big money per facing to the retailers.

They added back the food discounts but changed how they count it all now. The “perks” are about the same gas savings but you have to learn a new calculation. I don’t know where the gift card profits come from but they define all-in on the program. One near my mother has a thd attached. I doubt half of those thd gift cards make it out of the parking lot. I’m remodeling a rental and come in handy.

I have not used them yet for the food perks but they say it is unlimited upto 20% off at once. I was hoping you could combine them for 40 or 60% off but I guess that wouldnt make sense for them unless they put a limit to it. Max for gas is 30 gallons so if you have to spend at least $150 to save the same $30. I am thinking about doing a huge trip next month, like 500 worth to save 100. Only makes sense though on sale items so gotta wait for a good sale week.
Quote: NathanIs this story a hoax? In multiple internet articles, there were claims that a woman won $900 on a horse race and showed the winning slip on Facebook BEFORE cashing it in and allegedly, when she went to cash it in, she was told it had already been cashed in. Allegedly, one of her Facebook "Friends," used a scanner at their house, scanned the code right from her Facebook pic and stole her $900. She was understandably livid. At first the replies were sympathetic such as,"Someone scanned her code and stole her money? Low lives! I feel so bad for her!" The comments turned nasty quick. "I don't feel sorry for her. She's an idiot. She put a winning ticket online before cashing it in. She deserved to have her $900 stolen." I wonder if this person is the one who stole her $900. It was said there was going to be an investigation to see who stole the money. This story seems fishy. Is this story legit? Scanning a code from a picture and then stealing/getting the money from it ? Seems implausible.
Compared to half the things people post here, it seems quite plausible.

I find it hard to believe that they scanned her code from a PICTURE from their HOUSE and then stole the money when she had the actual winning ticket.

I plan to use it on sale items and coupons to make a real haul. Getting points for gas is huge for me as I drive like 25,000+ miles per year. Though that will go way down this year at this rate, it is still big. As I live alone only so much food I need to stock. For some stuff I use the 20% off every Saturday at Dollar General which I walk to. Use that to load up on personal products like soap, etc. Split the food shopping with Aldi and other places as GE is kind of prices when you pay rack rate for everything.
I used to laugh at trying to save big on groceries. Now I am half an extreme couponer when I put my mind to it. When you realize it might be $1,000 per year savings it matters.
