Can a slot machine be set to reduce or increase the pay out schedule. Is there a computer room within the casino to manage this. Just wondering. If so, about what length of time does it take for the change to take effect.
Some recently adopted Vegas regulations allow for "Server Slots" which would allow for quick changes to be made once a machine has been idle for four minutes.
For the vast majority of slots there are no such secret buttons or computer rooms and no way an owner of a casino would be able to sleep nights if there was such a point of vulnerability in the system. Physically changing chips, paperwork, paying fees and making MEAL book entries and sending faxes to the Gaming Board is alot of rigamarole but not all that difficult to do.
Very few games are this way. Not only does the machine need to be idle (but in a playable state) for four minutes, the game also needs to be disabled for four minutes before it can be played again. During this time, a message appears on the machine stating that changes are being made. I suspect that a casino doing this would shoot themselves in the foot because people will be even more distrusting when they see this happening on the floor.
