Thank you, FrG! A special blessing this year, the first full one under Pope Francis. He brings hope, humility, and kindness beyond anything I'd ever expected in my lifetime.

Depending on which poll you use, approximately 95% of Americans celebrate Christmas, so MERRY CHRISTMAS it is!

I just noticed that if you Google "festivus" the results appropriately include a tall pole on the left side of the page.

Merry Christmas everybody.

Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas?

To avoid offending anyone, I'm going to wish you all:

Merry Christmas, and

Happy Holidays such as
Festivus, Kwanzaa, Ramadan, Hanukkan, Diwali, and Bodhi.
I'm OK with Corps which pick and choose clienteles. Both insurance companies and casinos have the right to pick and choose customers. They may keep profitable ones and kicked out the rest. But, I'm not OK with a casino supervisor who says counting cards... is like stealing food from a buffet (a foodlifting offense), or video-taping a movie in a cinema (a piracy offense).

Do you really celebrate Kwanzaa or are you just being yourself (odd...lol)? I know Kwanzaa is gaining popularity as an alternative family and friends celebration, especially among those who feel Xmas has become too commercialized.

What ever the case, what ever you celebrate, happy holidays enjoying the company of family and friends and wishing a prosperous new year to all.

Merry Christmas everybody.

I remember the best Festivus ever...

It was college. We had been dipping into a bag of Christmas cheer all day. We decided to erect a Festivus pole.

All we had was one of those thin, red ones, like would be used for a badminton net. The table in the common room just so happened to have a hole in the middle that fit it perfectly. Viola! Festivus engaged.

But we wanted to decorate it. We knew it was blasphemy, but we were intoxicated. Seemed a good idea at the time.

All we had was a coat hanger, an American football, a nylon rope, and three sets of hockey gear. Things weren't looking good. But we were gonna have it.

The shoulder pads went on the hanger. The hanger went on the pole. An idea began to grow, and history was about to be made.

A sweater went over the shoulder pads. Elbow pads got stuffed up the sleeves. The nylon rope was run up either sleeve, and gloves were tied on the end.

Next, sock suspenders were clipped to the hanger. Socks were placed over shin pads, and then clipped to the suspender.

Pants were put on over the shin pads and allowed to rest upon them. The sweater was tucked into the top. Skates were tucked into the bottom of the shin pads and the socks pulled over the cuff. They held.

The gloves hung at awkward, impossible angles. So a stick was woven into the thumb strap, not only holding them straight, but giving the air of readiness.

The football was tucked into the top of the shoulders, and the helmet went on top.

Using just a pole, a set of gear, a hanger, and one piece of rope, we three created a life sized hockey dummy, erected right in the common room through which all dorm residents had to pass. Not only life sized, but life-like. It looked like a real person in mid stride ready to receive the puck. The rest of the night was filled with the beautiful sounds of horrified shrieks as residents returned to their dorm only to be confronted by a 6' 2" dummy in full charge mode.

For the last 16 years, the three of us involved have tried to recreate the creation. Two of us actually tried to blueprint it just three weeks ago, as none of us in all of these years can figure out how we did it. Probably 50 times since that quiet night in '99 we've tried to recreate the "Schultz Hall Shooter", and not once have we been able to even come close.

A true Festivus miracle =)

Something ironic about celebrating a completely manufactured holiday like Kwanzaa because Christmas got too commercialized. The former didn't even exist until recently.

Io Saturnalia! (though that season ended yesterday.)

As a matter of relevance/trivia, that's a celebration which allowed (the usually prohibited) gambling with dice.

I mainly celebrate Kwanzaa out of my disdain for Christmas.
