Did this accidently repost itself from the 1980's? Mods... There's a weird bug bringing up old posts!

Don't feel embarrassed or frustrated. You'll get some companies b4 you know it!
I have not been able to log onto AOL thru the Google Chrome Browser or the Internet Explorer Browser for months. Luckily I'm able to read AOL emails thru the AOL Browser, which is in here: "C:\Program Files\America Online 9.0\aol.exe" Coincidentally AOL is still up, not down.

Seriously? For real?
Not making fun of you, not at all. But I would've bet my entire bankroll that nobody still used AOL. Is it still a dial up connection with those funny modem noises?

You're not alone. My primary email accounts are AOL. Been there since 1995.My first PC was a Packard Bell with a whopping 1.3 gig hard drive!
Quote: ahiromuSo like, you can't be on the internet and the phone at the same time?
Wait... we aren't talking about dial up right? It's not those horrible tones and long connection waits from when I was a kid right? How exactly does AOL work these days?
No, AOL is like any other website like Facebook or Netflix or WizardofVegas. You can access it using hi-speed.
Quote: darkozBTW - it's working again for me so never mind.
Good to hear. I haven't been able to log in to AOL for ~20 years

Yeah THAT's the one EvenBob. Thanks for THAT memory...NOT!
ya know I think that horrible tone, short circuits people brains and makes them goofy. I'd be willing to bet that quite a few members of this site, used that old dial up and that explains quite a bit about our membership. :)
Perhaps you guys would be happier if it was COL (China Online) since you all buy stuff made in China.
Quote: darkozPersonally I think you are all being unpatriotic by not using a service with the word "America" in it.

Are you talking about that Asian guy I 'met' the other night? He said he was born (made) in Colorado. ??? :/

Oh my!! You must be young. I remember paying $800 for my first hard drive. A whopping 5mb.
BTW, I still have an AOL email account and check it daily.
Quote: ahiromuI remember muffling the modem screeches so it wouldn't wake up my parents as I logged onto Starcraft.
Warcraft: Orcs and Humans was one of the first PC games I remember playing. Been a Blizzard fan ever since. I recall playing WC2, WC3, Diablo, SC2, and everything forward online at one point or another.

Well maybe I misspoke. I guess my very first "computer" was a Commodore VIC 20. It had 5K RAM and cassette tape storage. I even bought a modem for it and you could connect to Compuserve and read really fast because it was long distance and they charged by the minute:) This was way before the World wide web.
I missed out on the whole "DOS" experience. So my first Windows computer was the Packard Bell. I still have it btw. I ought to try to boot it up.

Heh, my first computer was a Packard Bell, too. It was not the first one I used -- my family had 2 growing up -- I got it right before heading off to college. It was supposed to have an 80 Meg hard drive, but evidently they either made a mistake or were out of the 80's when they assembled it, because when I fired it up the first time, I saw it had a 120 Meg capacity!! Bonus!!
Incidentally, the motherboard went bad on this computer while it was still under warranty. The repair guy came to my dorm room and fixed it the day after I called -- no charge! When was the last time you heard of next-day, on-site service with a basic manufacturer's warranty on a computer?
He also fixed the start switch, which was intermittently not working, with part of a Frosted Flakes box-top!
