Purges are normally less to do with a change in theme in a communist dictatorship, and more to do with ensuring no-one is taking away power from the leader. It's probably not about whether their'll be a Military power (I can't see how North Korea Communism survives without it's huge military base), but who controls it.

Being married to a dictator is probably much like being married to someone who believes in harems. And seems like in N. Korea, it's even easier just to disapear one day with no real explanation. Like a soap opera, a new character just shows up if needed.
