In my local casino there is a 'snake' bet in roulette. What numbers does it cover and whats the payout? In Vegas, I've seen layouts with a picture of a snake winding among the numbers.

Looks like a 2:1 bet, since it covers 12 numbers.

The Red snake bet in roulette is highly uncommon and the odds of any player who comes to the roulette table seeing the bet made is highly unlikely. However, it exists and it is legal and provides high winnings for players who have great resources and mostly a lot of money. The Red Snake Bet is made only with the red numbers on the table layout and all must touch each other. It begins at one and snakes its way down to five, nine, twelve, fourteen, sixteen, nineteen, twenty-three, twenty-seven, thirty, thirty-two and finally to thirty-four. In order to place a red snake bet you must place your chips on the appropriate numbers on the layout.

They have it at my local casino and people bet it all the time. You just put your chip on the bottom corner on number 34 and the snake bet is made. Its just another dozen bet and pays 2/1. If red is streaking you have a good chance of winning.

Looks to me as if you have a 2/3 chance of winning, given that red wins. I think it's just another "dozens" bet, like the six others that are commonly played.

It's as "good" as any other roulette bet (disregarding the 0-3). I have always considered roulette (and, to a lesser extent, craps) a game of random bets on random numbers. I know that there are people (even on this forum) who believe in roulette strategies and systems, but that just screams "mental defect." Just toss your chips out, tend to lose money, and try to have fun, if you can find it in this game. I no longer do.

It seems to me that this snake bet is as good (or bad depending on your point of view) as any other roulette bet. It covers 12 numbers and pays 2:1 like any other Dozens bet.

The difference is, unlike the other dozens, there is no alternative or complementary bet for any combination of the 24 numbers not covered.

Yes they are. And the Snake is one of their astrological symbols.

It all makes sense now...

Instead of Red I would bet on BLACK :2-4-8-10-13-17-20-22-26-28-29 -31-35 >>>>> One unit on each straight up and as a hedge the 3rd Column with 9 units..

HAPPY WINNINGS!!!

P.S.I never did play this but just got this idea while reading about the snake bet and thought there might be a better way. Instead of 12 Reds there are 14 Blacks with a hedge at the 3rd column. I am well equipped with 3 systems all casino worthy and played in the trenches..

One method for the inside, follow the dozens on the wheel accorsing to sections , and not to forget the EC`s.

They have tables in Vegas that have the Chinese ceremonial snake right on the felt, winding its way thru the red numbers.
