I got an offer on the TR app for a Diamond gift.

When I went to pick it up, the guy swiped my card and said nah you don't get one.

I think that one wins the award for being the most insulting.

The lowest value one I've ever seen was from Main Street Station. Played about $1,000 on machines; at any other Boyd property that would be worth at least $5 per week. They started sending me coupons for $1 off a steak dinner.

That's really stinky. Play $1,000 and get $1 offof a steak dinner? Smells just as bad as rotten fish that fell in a sewer to me! :/

What happened to you was disgusting. I'd be steaming mad if I were told I was going to get a Diamond gift only to be told I don't get one when I got there. :/

Today at the M resort in Las Vegas, you can earn $5 in free play for playing 300 tier credits --- which requires $600 coin-in for video poker. Limit $25 bonus for $3,000 video poker coin-in.

As promotions go, this is pretty piddly. Except:

Local players already have free play to pick up on Friday or Saturday or Sunday this weekend. If you have to go anyway . . .

They are already offering 2x points for video poker (0.6% rather than 0.3%). If you're a quarter or dollar single-line player they have a variety of games better than 99.5%. (Higher stakes are limited to 98.98%)

For some players (invited guests --- I don't know how extensive the invitation list is) there are drawings at 4, 5, and 6 p.m. where most of your entries are based on coin-in since 4 a.m. Friday morning. I played relatively heavily yesterday (because of a drawing last night) so today's $3,000 coin-in slightly increases my already reasonable chances. I have no solid estimate of my EV (too many unknown variables), but I estimate it is in the "several hundred dollars" range --- which makes it worthwhile to show up.

Playing $2,000 or more video poker coin-in earns you a free buffet --- which retails for $42

Somewhere along the way between Jan 1 - June 30 (or July 1 - Dec 31), you need to qualify for whatever tier status you desire. Playing most or all of that on +EV days makes sense.

My point in all of this is that concentrating on individual offers is just the tip of the iceberg. Would I make a special trip to play $3,000 to earn $25 in free play if there was nothing else going on? Probably not --- although there have been times in my life where I valued my time less and I would definitely have gone.

Is the same promotion worthwhile when everything else is added in? Absolutely! It's like I'm getting an extra $25 on a day where I'm already a pretty big EV favorite. Bring on MORE of these insulting promotions!

I would not have let that drop with just one guy saying 'nah.'

Assuming we're talking about a phone app that I had with me, I would have asked to see a supervisor and shown him/her the message that says I get the 'whatever it was'. Without being loud or angry about it, I would have explained that i made a special trip just because the app said I was going to get it. If we're talking about something 'valuable' like a TV, I'd me more forceful. If we're talking about a $5 'casino crap' logo cup that matches nothing, I wouldn't make such a big deal out of it.

Supervisors have authority to "make things right." I would have given this one a chance to do that!

Now, if the the supervisor told me there was nothing that could be done, I would have made a judgment call concerning the value of the gift and the likelihood I'd be kicked out if I made a big stink.

Remember, showing anger is an option to be used in special cases when it can be useful. For me anyway, it is not the default.

Now if only their sister properties across the country had similar promos. Hollywood Toledo has $5 NSUD, 9/7 TDB, 35/8/5 BP and the $1 and $2 Triple Deuces Wild (99.92%).

It's hard to imagine a 99.92% game isn't positive. Getting to ICON ($800,000 coin-in every six months) on a 99.92% game costs less than $700 on average --- with considerable swings given that the only hands you really care about are $3,000 or $4,000 if you're playing for dollars, or twice that amount if you're playing for $2.. If you value cruises at all, the heavily discounted cruise is worth considerably more than that. You get a $500 Icon trip each year to another property. Surely you get some mailers and other goodies that are worth something.

Probably the biggest factor in whether that's a positive play is the state tax policy on W2Gs. Triple Deuces at $1 or $2 gives you a W2G every 4000 hands or so --- averaging $120K in W2Gs or so to play $800,000. I don't know Ohio's tax policies.

Another factor is the variance. Triple Deuces has a variance of 96. You need non-trivial bankroll (both financial and psychological) to play this at the $1 or $2 level. For players who get upset at losing a lot TODAY, this is not the game for you. If you don't hit the every-4400-hands deuces or every-45,000-hands royal, you're going to be behind by a lot. And most days you play only a few hours, you're not going to hit one of those premium hands.

Ohio's tax policy is the clincher. You cannot write off losses. Being out of state, they automatically deduct state income tax as well. Plus travel to get there. It's an hour and a half drive from my area.

You can file and get a refund of state taxes if you are from another state, but the city taxes you can't get back.
