My wife and I do volunteer work and donate to several worthy causes but a line has to be drawn somewhere.

When a seemingly able bodied person who can trot up and down the Strip or the Boardwalk all day long asking for a handout approaches me, the answer is a firm no. I make no excuses or offer no explanation, just the firm no. I don't wait for the spiel. I say no the minute they open their mouth. Harsh? Maybe. Effective? Most definitely. They seldom persist and I believe it has to do with how you carry yourself.

These worthless beggars have proliferated like crazy here in and near Portland, to the point it is beyond irksome.

Everytime I see somebody on the roadside holding up their cardboard sign begging for money, well, it makes me wonder just what the hell is wrong with this country?

It would seem we, too, are becoming yet another third world country in serious decline.

I wonder if they have beggars like this in Europe?

There ought to be a law.

There is a difference between in casinos and outside of casinos.

This country has always had its poor...most of them worked though.

I know one man got out of prison, needed money... robbed a convenience store at gun point. A few months later he was more or less "on his feet" and went back to the store with the money. He didn't say he was sorry. He wasn't. He regretted having been unable to do any research and having therefore robbed an oriental owned store. He knows the risks of a gun battle are much greater there. He regretted that. He didn't regret having stolen money when he needed it. He regretted having needed it so bad.

In a casino? Well, I guess on Sundays they use a sign outside a church but on other days of the week, they just go to a casino to annoy people. Casino security should chase these leeches away.

I dealt with a panhandler at a $5 blackjack table a few years back... he busted his $20 in about 10 minutes and then flat out said to give him 4 reds and he'll double it for me... I looked at him with that "are you kidding me?" look and then he started to try to get chips from the gal next to him and it looked like she was about to give in... at this point I called over the pit boss and the guy was asked to leave the table.... of course as he was being led away he needed to let me and the gal know "you cost yourself hundreds... I would have made you hundreds!"

must have been the alcohol or meth talking.... plus I think his "I'll Make You Thousands" deal would have involved me giving him green chips...

Thanks for sharing Teddy. I have know a lot of Mikes in my lifetime. Does not matter how skillful or good at any game they play, poker, pool, golf, or business. They will find a way to self destruct. Let's not leave the ladies out either. Knew a really good wife and mother who go addicted to VP, hiding bills, turn off notices, etc. Lost the car, the house , all but her loyal husband. Last I heard they were sharing a 3 bedroom apartment with her daughter, son-in-law, and 2 grandkids.

Worked with a guy named Ivan. I covered for him on Wednesdays so he could go to GA meetings, which he did attend. For a while. Found out he starting playing poker those nights and that was that. Lost his wife, blew kids college fund, probably dead now. Hell of a nice guy to be honest. Just a victim of his addiction.

Larry S ain't here, but anybody else thinks these people got what they deserve, screw you. Everybody in life needs a fix. Just because your is not destructive, just shut up !

Ran into the same panhandler from a month ago. Driving a nice car, no less. Last time said she needed 5 dollars for gas. This time it was 7.

Bah! Driving through parking area and catching people before they leave. I told the guy near me who she also asked that I'd seen her before. He made the same comment about her car I had.
Quasimodo? Does that name ring a bell?
