Official. Vegas will be absolutely crazy that weekend.

https://mobile.twitter.com/ESPNF1/status/1509359836387057668?cxt=HHwWiIC94caxqfIpAAAA this tweet say that it will be going past Mandalay Bay but that’s clearly incorrect.

Neat!

I can just see it now: two cars flying down the strip at 212 mph, they bump, lose control and fly through the air, over any temporary barrier and into a crowd of water sellers, celebrity impersonators and pick pockets.

You think they could have created a more challenging or better course. Would have been nice to see them go down DI and flip a Uturn and head back down DI and maybe race along the west side or at go up and down Dean Martin too. I get the strip part, nothing wrong with that.

Wow. A large area will be ‘inside’ the track! Will that area be totally isolated from the outside world or are their any bridges/tunnels? I’m wondering if a room at hotel X with a view of where the race will run, is normally $Y, what multiple of $Y will the room be going for that weekend?

I was going to mention them but I haven't been to sin city in years and wasn't sure if they're still a fixture on the strip, post-covid restrictions; sounds like they still are a nuisance and a presence.

Mea culpa; add them to the list as well.

I’ve been in Singapore during race week. It’s a bit of a pain in the ass but not terrible and most things stay open even in pretty close proximity to the track. I can guarantee all of the hotels will be open and accessible.

Does Monte Carlo have a problem with this?

What I want to know is, what is currently in the area shown as being between turns 14 and 4? Google Satellite shows a couple of empty lots next to Harbor View Apartments. Presumably, those were chosen intentionally to be near the finish line as, traditionally, that is where pit road is located. I wonder if they even considered making the northbound lanes of the Strip pit road and having the finish line near the end of the Strip straightaway.

I notice that, unlike with most other Formula 1 races (including Indianapolis, when it was held there), this race will be run counterclockwise.

Those Harborview apartments used to be a drug lair and prostitution den. A fitting place for a pit. I used to date a girl that lived there.

A friend of mine lives there! They are not absolutely terrible, but not good, either. For people with wrecked credit and little/no income, they are actually a godsend as for finding a place to live.

Ellis Island will have a great view of the race. Don't sleep on them. Another friend has already reserved a table at the Front Yard. He is a big player there.

Looks like the empty lots next to Harborview will be the pit/finish. Will be a nice development for that area. Walked through there many times from the Hard Rock to the Tuscany/Ellis. Super creepy.

I wonder what will happen to the old "ICE" nightclub there?

I was curious WHEN:

"The Vegas race, which doesn't have a specific date for 2023 but was announced as being on a Saturday night in November, was announced despite the litigations. But it's an ongoing case, so it will be interesting to see who wins out here".

per:

https://www.thedrive.com/accelerator/45122/f1s-las-vegas-race-is-already-tangled-in-a-lawsuit

I also found another map in an LVRJ article.

"Shidfar says that he received a letter in 2013 from Bernie Ecclestone that appointed him to put together an operation to be a promoter for a Las Vegas Grand Prix. Liberty Media says that that's not a contract and that there's no need to honor it."

It sure doesn't sound like a contract; more like an invitation to discuss putting one together.

What is the case number and is there a link to view the complaint?

My knee-jerk reaction is this has cluster f*ck written all over it.

Then again, I’m sure every city that does this, faces the same challenges. So maybe they have it figured out.

This should be good for the monorail, because that, and the pedestrian bridges over the strip, are the only current method of getting in or out of that circle without actually being on the street.

Vehicles are a whole other issue. I’m sure that’s part of the reason why they’re gonna have the race at night - so the streets could be all be open for most of the day.

Here's a short animated video of the track F1 released...

Wow. That is a long straightaway down the Strip. They'll need some crowd control on the footbridges or they'll be clogged.

Anyway, I'm hearing Thanksgiving weekend.

Liberty Media, which owns Formula 1, has bought the area where they plan to put the pit stops and finish line for $240 million. I assume this is the area to the north and west of Harmon Apartments.
No idea what they intend to do with that land the remaining 51 weeks of the year.

According to another source, the purchased area is pretty much everything between the Planet Hollywood Hotel and the apartment block; the area north of the apartments, between Flamingo Road and the Virgin Hotel, is not included.
Also, Liberty Media will be one of the race's promoters, which I don't think it does for any of the other races.

They make a couple billion a year in revenue, so long term it's probably not a bad investment.

And the land I’m will be worth something still the day after the event.

I guess it's kind of neat that the race will be in Las Vegas.

This, similar to many large events, is a giant corporate boondoggle. If you are not attending on your company's dime, I think you are a sucker.

The crowds and the inflated prices will keep me away. I'll watch on TV.

Except that this is not going to be a one-time thing, so they can't really develop the land - well, except for "permanent" garage buildings that will only be used once a year.

I assume they do something similar at Monte Carlo, since the Monaco Grand Prix is also on streets.

EA Sports has released its 2023 F1 game which includes the new Las Vegas circuit. Note that, as the game depicts, the race will take place at night...

Thousands of pictures were taken in Vegas to create the mock-up. Some casino names have been changed for copyright reasons. The game is the first time anyone, including the F1 drivers themselves, will see what the track looks like from a driver's perspective.

I am reactivating this thread to discuss the upcoming LV Forumula 1 Grand Prix.

Is there much buzz about it among the locals in sin City?

How are the preparations coming along and have they smoothed out the points of disagreement, e.g. as to charging to watch from casinos?

Does anybody really GAS about car racing any more?

I was reading an article today saying that all three airports in Vegas are charging a $3000 landing fee that week. Normally a landing fee is free for small single engine planes but not that week.

Read from VitalVegas that Caesars is giving away $100k worth in prizes for employees that work Grand Prix week.
The more hrs you work, the more raffle tix you earn.
Guess they were anticipating a ton of people calling out.

And taxi's are adding a $15 surcharge to ALL fares going to the strip. (Approved by the taxi commission)
