Over at the LVAdvisor, the Question of the Day had to do with sports comps. I posted a response since there was no historical aspect to the answer. If anybody has any follow up questions, I'll try to answer them. I am not up, however, on current point rates in 2019. Some of the formulas are labyrinthine and not worth the time to decipher, given the low rates.

Most places do offer points and comps for sports bets and at roughly the same rate as other games -- 0.1% back on bets made with a ticket writer and a players card. Stations and Boyd both do that. I think William Hill advertises up to 0.6% back on the radio at certain times of the year, but I don't pay close enough attention

Most places won't give them for account betting. I think Stations will do it on days you also use your card in the casino. WH used to do it for anything on the app (and may still do so), but are just so quick to ban anyone.

I think the biggest reason is that they're scared of getting beat. They don't want to give anything to people who might beat them money. For myself I would love to find bets that should be considered break even, and with points and comps it get a small advantage from it. But because of that, there will never be much competition and it will never be much more than $1 back on $1,000 bet.

At Cosmo (Cantor or CG) you have to fight to get a drink ticket on a bet under $500. They do not link to Cosmo’s Identity program but it’s not hard to get free drinks at the Sports Book Bar playing .25 VP earning a drink coupon for every 20 points. With the rise of independent books like WH, comps for sports bets are almost extinct.

But a great topic for discussion RE.

Many places want $200 and up for a drink ticket these days. I'll do a partial survey in two weeks and see what I can pin down. As a way of comparison, one offshore was giving me .8% cashback, which was the highest of three tiers, the others being .6 and .4. They were never clear how they arrived at your rate -- secret formula -- but part of it had to do with sheer number of bets and part was wagering volume and part was type of wager (to boost the parlay lovers).

How awful am I when it comes to this comp stuff? I will not repeat my Mandalay Bay story at this time (it's terrible; I have no shame). But let me put it this way. A couple of SB's ago, the beers at the Westgate sports book bar (it's a nice bar) were eight bucks. I asked the ticket writer how much to get a drink ticket. He said I needed to bet $100. So I asked if I could bet $55 on each side of the same game. He said he didn't see why not, so I saved myself three bucks.

The sad thing is, I didn't even think about it for five seconds. The idea just came naturally.

Yeah, I'm a pain in the ass. That's my job title.
