I am just getting interested in sports betting, so I am still a little shaky in my understanding of the different types of wagers.

I was looking at the current lines listed in the Yahoo page used in the WOV NFL Picks contest, and there seems to be an arbitrage opportunity in the money lines listed for the Texans/Lions game. 5dimes.eu has the Texans at +105, but most of the other online books has the Lions at +105.

If the game doesn't end in a tie, is a 2.5% profit automatic if one bets the same amount on each team (betting the Texans at 5dimes and the Lions at one of the other books)?

If so, does this sort of scenario happen often?

Yes, and it happens often enough that sharps are always on the lookout for it.

As it is T day tomorrow, I'll never forget then time I had an uncle who bet one team +3 1/2, the other -3. The game went to overtime, and thus he had about a 50% chance of winning one and pushing the other... The game was on in the basement, and he went upstairs to tell his wife of his possible good fortune.... he came back down to the basement to see highlights of the kickoff return for a touchdown......

If you can find the Texans anywhere for +105, bet as much money as you can afford. I think you probably looked at the line wrong because most places they are -180.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.

It is very possible that I made a mistake, but please feel free to go to the Yahoo page and confirm the 5dimes.eu line.

Do money lines ever change before a game?

It seems a little scary to deposit money with one of these offshore outfits. Can anyone recommend a trustworthy sports betting site (other than the sponsor of WOV)?

Took your suggestion as sincere:

-3½
+102 -112

It isn't a money line as we call it. IF you took the Texans when you refer, I assume you laid 3 1/2 points and $100.usd to win $105.. As you can see, the $105 is now $102., a line change.

Money lines and point spread lines move before a game, but your bet doesn't change. It was what it was when "booked".

Happy Thanksgiving
