When you are dealt a royal, the cards are auto-held for you. No possible way to make that kind of mistake.

The person was obviously playing $25/hand, not $5/hand as Mr Garcia seems to think. Dealt royals are fun, but it's super misleading to suggest that "5 cent" video poker players can win a jackpot like this.

Reminds me of a similar article about someone who got dealt a royal on 10-play 25c UX. It paid something like $36,000 IIRC. The article was all like, "Wow, on a 25c bet he won $36,000!!!!!"

Someone hit a $20,000 jackpot. I'd rather celebrate their good fortune than critique a reporter who appears out of their knowledge zone.

because it is not newsworthy. It is just a dealt royal. He won 800x his bet. Sure that is awesome but not newsworthy. How about the people playing buffalo that win 8k on an .80 bet. 10,000 times their bet is much more impressive, no?

That's not always true. Then again, I probably have the least amount of dealt royals compared to anyone that's played as many hands of VP as I have. Never had a dealt multi line Royal. I have connected with a fair amount of double royals holding less than 4 cards on triple play and 5 play. I have had a fair amount of redraw royals, go figured.

I am in the same boat as you. I have never had a dealt multi-hand royal either.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.

no dealt royals or redraw royals for me. I really want to get one. I stopped counting how many hands I have played but it is only around 600k single line so I dont even think I am to expectations yet.

It was on VP.com, and I don't remember if it auto held. I just remember thinking I owed the poker God's 400,000 hands.

So that'd be a jackpot of $100,000 on a 25 cent machine; $400,000 on a dollar machine; and $2 million on a $5 machine. (Divide by 800 to find the original bet sizes.)
