I know, dice setting is impossible (yes, it is), but I just ame back from Vegas' Super Bowl weekend (more about that in another thread) but the following occurred to me:

I was at a table with three different morons who were either superstitious or devotees of the theory and each of them added 15-30 seconds to each roll. It was a crowed table so each toll, which took about a minute to have all the bets resolved, added 25% or so to my playing time.

They added time to the ADT formula and I got better comps dollars applied to my final bill because of these clowns.

They're helping you increase your ADT with an actual reduction to expected loss per hour, so why call them clowns? If anything, since the table apparently allows it, you should also take time to set the dice since it does both of those things and does not otherwise change the mathematical expectation of your bets.

It was on a Saturday night on a packed table with all those people increasing the time between rolls. While good for comps, it was still sort of annoying.

which casino was this?
thought pitboss's update the computer only after a 7 out since they are busy with 5 other craps table in their pit.
they also might update with new bets/bet amount when he swings by your table and shooter hasn't 7'd out yet.

aka length of time doesn't matter.

Huh?

Usually the floor will observe the table for a few rolls, set the players bets on the computer and doesnt really change it unless he/she notices a different play style...then itll stay there until the player leaves...time does matter

Not all clowns set the dice; only the Bozos believe it matters more than a fart in a hurricane.

I saw something similar this morning at Mohegan. Packed table and 1 guy who easily took 30 seconds setting up his roll. The really weird part was that setting the dice only took him a few seconds but before he set them he spent a hell of a long time carefully examining each die. It didn't seem like a superstition or ritual behavior but more like he really wanted to make sure the dice hadn't been messed with since his last roll. No one was complaining since he was getting good results and making us all some money at an otherwise cold table.

For a similar reason, I love being on a 3CP table with someone playing blind, and a dealer who does a slow reveal.

It’s almost always Asian dealers on slow nights who will do this, some will spend a solid 10-20 seconds revealing the blind hand.

I was just in Aruba and just about every craps table had a sign that said something to the effect of "No setting, no cupping, no touching with both hands, nor lobbing the dice. Just pick them up and throw."

Length and width really do matter, even in casinos.

My favorite is the guy who takes a long time to carefully set the dice in the 'correct orientation,' and then proceeds to shake them up and throw them! Oh, and it's an added bonus if he 'pets' the table after he sets them and before he throws them!

Well he just scratched his ass, and needs to get that gunk off his fingertips for better tactile feedback on his grip.
