I was playing a slot machine next to a woman who told me she gambled and lost her rent money in tight slot machines. So sad and so disgusting. How irresponsible do you have to be to risk not having your rent paid?

She should have benbakdoff
100% risk of ruin

All casinos have experts in psychological fields working for them.

What is your source?

I have known people at the highest levels in casinos all over Vegas and can say with great confidence that none of them employ a psychologist.
It's not whether you win or lose; it's whether or not you had a good bet.

I don't get why posters are harping on about my saying,"Begging landlord for rent extension." Unless you have your own home or sponge off family and friends, chances are that you pay your landlord rent money especially for an apartment.

Hi Wiz. Not the individual owners. And I'm sorry but didn't mean to imply full time employment. The industry as a whole at times have paid for studies on addiction and personality profiling. I've gotten that information from reading Casino Gambling Industry journals and people I know in security with casinos. Yes, there are members on this site right now who can argue pro or con whether that's true.

Casinos do this every day, every second with loyalty/player cards, video cams all over the place and even on games themselves. And many other ways. Casinos aren't tracking your every move from game to game to make your experience a wonderful thing. It's to max monetize your time on the floor.

For their benefit.
Not the player.

Because you're totally off topic?
I think Wov should include the topic subject line at the top of this reply page because I think it's easy to go off topic if the thread subject doesn't show up and remind people sometime.
I know, I do it too.

LOL, DT. :D But, seriously, I could see how my talking about people who are so irresponsible with their rent money that they risk losing it in slots came off as kind of weird in this topic. The point I was trying to make was that there are people so addicted to slot machines they put their rent money in the machines knowing there is a huge chance they could lose it(I had gone off on a bit of a tangent with the "addicted" in the subject.) ;)

Self-professed degenerate gambler Mario Puzo wrote in one of his nonfiction books (either Inside Las Vegas or The Godfather Papers) about a time in his life when he needed $200 to move his family from one apartment to another but he only had $100 to his name. He says he took the $100 and put it on a horse at 2:1. The horse came in. His reasoning was that if the horse lost he would just have to borrow $200 instead of $100. He felt that the level of embarrassment would be the same, so why not take a chance?

Then again, this is the guy who perpetuated the rumor that casinos flood their gaming floor with pure oxygen in the early morning hours to encourage more play. He was a story-teller so who knows?
