Unfortunately, the closest $5 craps table to Detroit (outside of Windsor) is probably Battle Creek.

Are table minimums any lower now that the Toledo casino has opened?

Stopped at Toledo Casinos the day after they opened, they had 12 tables open and the craps tables were all $15.00 to $25.00. Stopped 2 weeks ago and only 3 craps tables were open, 2 at $10 and 1 at $15.

I found the craps tables long (14-16') and extremely bouncy. I tend to shoot from the first or second postion from the stickman. The dice seemed like it took about 10 minutes to stop boucing around. Had 3 quickl hands of less then 4 tosses. Moved to straight out. Made 1 point, a hard 6 , which I set as a hard 6. I believe that I had around 15 tosses, which included a few hard 6 and hard 8's. I bought in for $300.00. At SL1 and SL2 down a quick $200.00. After going to Straight Out made back the $200 plus another $60.00. Good time to walk.

The real problem is slow (new ) dealers and the majority of players tossing out field, horn and hopping bets. Then complaining about "missing bets" and improper payoffs. Too many arguements. One time when shooting from straight out I set the dice down 3 times while complaints were going on.

Sure is fun getting into a rhythm, or should I say I was trying to get into a rhyrhm.

Very tedious and not worth hanging around. Maybe give it a "whirl" again in a few years....

I've lived fairly close to Detroit for most of my life, yet I've never been to any of the casinos. If I had to choose just one, what would be my best bet? I'm leaning towards Greektown, but MGM appears to have some strong qualities as well.

Greektown is dirty, but they have some good video poker paytables. MGM is superb in most respects but is pricey. MotorCity is a nice middle, and the one I would choose.

I hear that Motor City is in a particularly bad area (no small statement considering the city), or is that overblown?

Your in downtown Detroit, there are no 'good' areas.
The key word here is Detroit.

In 1966 just after I got paroled from USAF , I had a bet with a Vietnam vet about him walking 20 blocks on Park Heights avenue
any Friday or Saturday night. He came to his senses and i let him out of the bet. He was a white guy who had killed too many Vietnamese to count. He was hold a machine gun in open bay of helicopter and mow down villagers friendly to Viet Cong.

Will also take 2 or 3 Cong up in helicopter and start throwing them out on at a time till he got the info he wanted.

This was only 2 years after the riots in Baltimore. Even a stone cold killer knew I had all the best of that bet.

Yes. There is not really a neighborhood around it at all. It is I would say 70% abandoned. The casino "island" is a world of its own and if you are driving in, it's no problem. I've walked to it many times in the daytime. Security rides around on Segways.

So I ended up going to Motor City a couple times over the past couple weeks and I was fairly impressed. Nice vibe, nice atmosphere. You people weren't kidding when you said it was literally right off the expressway. I didn't find parking or safety to be an issue at all (I did go in the middle of the week during the day though). Table limits were reasonable as a lot of the tables started at $5 (except blackjack at $10). Got killed at BJ and 4-card, but did catch a straight flush at 3-card. Didn't get around to any of the dining options or playing in the poker room or at the craps table, but I'll try to get to those next time.
