That seemed to have been working quite well, for quite awhile. Now there seems to be a discussion about 'the discussion' going on here. I suggested a thread for just that purpose, I was kidding, but maybe I had it just right. 2F
It belongs right here unless the discussion gets really long...several random things are discussed for a few posts here. It is just some random crap out there on the internet.
I boiled some mud bugs last night...delicious!!

Oh, yeah, dealer prep and all that.
I always ask "what is the final cost to drive it off this lot?"
Only I didn't really know what it meant. In the dream, I was working over what it must mean, getting into arguments with people too. By the time I woke up, I was googling it. Turns out it means to fail; clearly, to say so and put it in a humorous light.
But why was I dreaming this? It wasn't a term I ever use, why would I? Also, I had come out ahead while gambling [although I was going to gamble some more].
Only thing I can figure is I heard somebody there use the term and it stuck in my subconscious. This was Rocky Gap in MD.

I do everything over email now when I buy a car. If you are financing through the dealer they will want a credit card for a down payment and once they have that they will see you are serious. Have them run your credit generate all the final paperwork and email you a copy so you can go over it before you travel to the dealer site. If all looks good go to the dealer sign the paperwork and you can probably be out the door and on the road within an hour. If they tack on any unexpected charges tell them no thank you and to refund your card for the down payment.
In the past ten years I have bought 6 cars and all of those were from out of state dealers. I haven't had any problems and I think the dealers are starting to get used to doing business that way. Most dealerships have an internet sales manager now.

That isn't necessarily true -- if you have a trade-in that's free and clear (equity) you can use that as your down payment. BTW just because you have a credit card that doesn't insure that you're a legitimate buyer -- the buying process usually starts with a credit report & that will determine many aspects of the buying process. FYI having excellent credit will enable the buyer more clout than any other aspect of the buying process.

Seriously are you buying new or used vehicles? Did you even drive these cars before you bought them?

Mine have been new cars and no I haven't driven the actual vehicle I am buying. If I want to test drive one I would go to a local dealer and drive the same model that I am buying. Generally I do not test drive the new cars. I figure if Motor Trend names it a top 5 car that is better than what I would be able to determine.
For me, you could never do a better PI day than last year, so no other PI day will ever be interesting. Here it is, 3.141592653 ... you will not get 10 digits accuracy again for 100 years. I made this screen capture last year.Quote: DocSo why didn't anyone start/resurrect a Pi Day thread early this morning? What's happened to all of the nerds/geeks who made this forum what it is?

I don't think it is right to have more than one PI day a century. PI day was last year.
I flew from NE Florida to St. Louis to buy my truck. I wanted a 4x4, standard cab, and 8' bed. I found 6 vehicles that matched those specs within 1,000 miles. I negotiated with all the dealers, and the dealer in STL gave me the best deal by over $1,000.Quote: GWAEHow far would everyone travel to buy a car? My loan is a 1.99%. We have 3 choices. One is far away, 1 is medium, and 1 is local. All are the same vehicles but miles and prices are different.
1. Local, miles are low price is $32000 after interst
2. Drive to Michigan (4ish hours both ways), higher mileage Than we would like but price is $30000 after interest.
3. Would require a flight to Connecticut and a 7 hour drive home. Miles are low and cost after interest is $28000. Flight would be free as I have a ton of points.
I am leaning to 3. If someone called and offered me $4k to drive there and back I would do it in a minute.
I couldn't take time off to drive it back to FL, so I made an offer to my parents that I would fly them out there and they would drive the truck back. They agreed since for them, it was a chance for a vacation to STL, Branson, Ozarks, Biloxi, etc. in a brand new truck. For me, I was able to book my flight on points and have my truck delivered for the price of flying them out to STL (about 1/3 the cost of the car delivery services I looked into). Win-win.
Have you tried to leverage dealers 1 & 2 with your offer from #3?
Out of curiosity, is Dealer #1 the Scam Mailer Dealership?

Thanks for the clarification --- that process would never work for me. When it comes to the buying process my HIGH credit rating (well over 800) enables me to negotiate terms that fit my budget. -- You know what you want and of course that usually makes the whole process pretty cut and dry. Personally I want to drive the car even if it's a new one.

My credit is up there too, anything over 720 doesn't really matter for cars though. I got 1.99 on 72 month loan (I know I know 72 months sucks but my current car is a 2003 with 200k miles on it.)
Joeman, dealer is not scam place.
We decided this morning to get the car in new york. I sent an email to all 3 asking for best offer explaining that I was sending the email to all 3. 1 called and said, we don't negotiate. Price is what it is, plus a $800 fee.
1 emailed and said they would waive dealer fee.
New York called and said they don't have a dealer fee and would take off $800. They went from being cheapest to even cheaper. I called to accept and he even offered to pick us up from airport in Hartford for free so that saves us on price of rental car or hassle. Now hopefully he doesn't get us to dealership and screw us since we would be stuck there.
This is a 2014 still in warranty so as long as the test drive doesn't reveal anything we will be good to go
Just booked my flight with miles so my cost to get there will be $0. I might get an Uber from my house to airport so we don't have t worry about parking car. Flight is at 4am so I won't have anyone to get me there.

I never realized so many people are willing to travel out of state to buy their next car -- I live in California, we have literally hundreds maybe even thousands of dealerships e.g., new and used.

somewhere along the way I got the impression Joeman was a broker for independent car dealers - WOW! shame on me, sorry.

You are very fortunate to have enough competition in your area. Living in Las Vegas for many brands we only have one company to deal with. I usually end up buying my cars in Southern California because the dealers are willing to negotiate more.

My Ram blew up going 25mph, not even 100 miles past the 7/70 warranty and just 2 days before I was gonna trade it in. Hauled it to the first wrench, he couldn't figure it out. Hauled it to a second and he couldn't either without a full pull and tear down.
I got a dealer on the horn who said he would take my wreck. I said I owed $9k on it and wanted it paid off (lol). He said Yup! Bring it in. I said I was serious; I needed this truck gone, my debt gone, and a new truck to get me home. He said Yup! Bring it in. I said seriously, it's a $600 bill just to tow it there, not to mention the $400 already into towing it to two different place. Don't f#$% me around. Yup! Bring it in.
Got there and guy said he "had to speak to the manager". The f#$% what? Comes back after 90 MINUTES and says he can't wipe my debt, can't take the truck.
Idiot. Shouldn't piss off the fish. He would've made $6k+ off me and my idiot car buying tactics. Instead I walked next door to his competitor and walked out with my "new" truck 4 hrs later.

Car (some) dealers are just scum. Salesman need to get people in the door and will say anything to make it happen. I sold cars for 18 months or so. It was the only job that I stormed off on with a very dramatic exit.
At least in my situation my financing is already a done deal and there is no trade in so in order for him to screw me he would have to make up a story about why the car is now 2k more than he said on the phone. I talked to the salesman and also the salesmanager today. On car guru there are a ton of good comments and only a few bad ones so I am feeling good about it so far. Wait till I am in flight and my anxiety may change a little.

Haaaaa. Kind of like when the pit critter at MSS told me to get lost when I was trying to buy in at the craps table (I had been backed off from Blackjack earlier that day, but he didn't make it clear that it was actually an 86 and not just a back off).
Doc joked that I was counting the pips on the dice.

Each dice has 21 pips, so it probably confused the pit critter.

About 1:00 PM John's about to go on break again, I've been at the table for 13 hours, I'm basically even, I've been awake for 36 hours at least. I colored up and ran for the hills, thru the hills actually. My room key wouldn't let me in, I'd missed checkout. The front desk gave me new keys, offered me an energy drink, thanked me for my business. I grabbed my bag, looked at the bed that I didn't get to sleep in, thanked the maid that was coming in as I was going out. Was still a long drive home, I think I might have slept thru it here and there along the way. Slept from 5:00 PM until 6:00 AM today, wife and kids had to do dinner without me.
If you're planning to find yourself at Harrah's Cherokee anytime soon, and like BJ, I'd advise you look around for John Carter, he can be magic, and will be fun even if you're losing. Tell him Two said Hi! I came home basically ahead by the amount of the vouchers, call it $1200, nothing to brag about, but that after several hundred in tips, and some more for scotch and more tips. Could have been much worse, actually it was 'much worse' for much of a very long grind. Cheers, 2F
Of those of you who still use windows based desktops or laptops at least part of the time, are page crashes just a regular part of your web surfing experience?
It doesn't happen here -- usually on other sites, or where there is lots more advertising. Something on the page has caused your browser to close. Get that about once a day. I don't know if it's malware or what?

Collateral damage from monitor assault, keyboard abuse, and printer punting, yeah perhaps occasionally. That is, a friend has heard a rumor of it. Page crash without operator assistance, nope.

To give an idea of how small this place is. It is an actual ford dealer. They do about 30 cars a month. 1 sales man and 1 sales manager/FI

I'm using IE11 on Windows 10 for most things, Chrome for certain programs that won't run on IE any more.
If I'm foolish enough to open more than about 6 tabs, or click on any interesting 3rd party stories, or use Facebook with IE, the window crashes within 5 minutes. Constantly. Reloading may or may not allow me to use the page. Pop-ups freeze it. Multi-ads on the page freeze it. Animations freeze it. Etc. Ad Nauseum.

I got Google Chrome shortly after it came out (or when I first heard of it). Never had any problems with it, that I can remember. I would usually have several instances of Chrome open at a time (3-5), each with several tabs, 5 to 15 perhaps.
