I haven't looked into Pawn Stars to the depth that you have, but they proudly claim they're 24/7/365 and have been for decades, so I'm surprised to hear you say they close for filming. I figured they control what appears on tv, but some part of the store must be open for them to make that claim.

Yes 24/7, The small window service for graveyard shift.
Visited them and got there early, I also thought 24/7, and some early fans pointed to the window.

You gotta be desperate to sell to a pawn shop, they lowball. Still, I'm a fan

The store is 'open' for filming, those are selected
customers you see in the background. It's closed
to the general public, however. And there's the
24/7 window.

It's always so crowded you can hardly move and
there's a line down the block, even when it's 110
out. The stars are never there, except the couple
times a week they sign autographs for a fee.

I've read interviews with locals and they all agree
the Old Man is a giant prick in real life. He's mellowed
since show came on, before that he didn't wheel
or deal at all. He made an offer and if you didn't
like it, he turned his back and left you standing there.
You can still see some of that sometimes.

My understanding is that on Pawn Stars they actually have a second showroom in back that is just used for filming the scenes for the show.

Nope, it's the real store. It was very small
the first few seasons, but they enlarged it.
The back is offices and warehouse. If
you go by it you can see it's still not all
that big.

That show is still on? I quit watching after
season 4 and the articles on cheating started.
All reality shows are fake.

Here's one from a couple years ago.

http://www.realityblurred.com/realitytv/2012/02/survivor-south-pacific-food-fire-fake/

From one of the contestants:

“I never felt like anybody was pushing me” to vote a certain way, Lobdell said. But the show’s alumni acknowledged that producers often chatted with them before a vote, suggesting hypothetical scenarios like, “What if you did x, y and z?” The contestants said those discussions sometimes planted ideas in their heads..

This is how ALL reality shows work. There
is an outline on how the people will get
along, but no script. Throughout the show
the producers make suggestions and ask
questions, but never outright tell them what
to do. It's a farce. You never hear much about
it because of the contracts they all have to
sign.

There will always be someone cheating or doing something they shouldn't be doing. My question is, how much is real on survivor and how much is fake. I don't know the answer to that.

The people on these shows are constantly
prodded and poked into taking certain
actions. If they weren't, they would sit
around all day looking at each other,
scratching their butts. There is no script
and they aren't pro's. So they are egged
on by the producers all the time. The
show is on a schedule, time is money.

I don't know anybody who's ever been on Survivor, but my impression is similar to EB's. The interaction and activities are contrived and influenced, and things are edited to sometimes imply something that isn't true, but the contestant's reactions to situations set for them and comments are likely real.

I have a friend of a a friend who was on Survivor(Sugar Kiper). She's never mentioned anything about any kind of rigging or prodding. Not that I expect her to. I want to go on because it's my favorite show, it seems fun, and I do want the real deal on how it's run.

I know they try to obfuscate who is really leaving by balancing the amount of talk to reflect minor opinions as important as the real plan.

But on the other hand, the purpose of the constant filming is simply save interesting bits out of a weeks worth of footage. Heck if you put a digital camera out on a busy sidewalk for a week (running in a constant mode, not surveillance) if you can't find interesting things out of 168 (a week) hours of filming I'd be surprised. (minus about 10 minutes for commercials, you only need 50 minutes)

The grind is watching hours of boring bits trying to weed out something useful. Survivor has an advantage over a public sidewalk, as they introduce gaming competition, and stress (not enough food, working towards a prize, needing to lie to gain advantage).

But that doesn't require coaching or a script.
There's no secret. Just know what you're talking about before you open your mouth.

It is absolutely up to you and your family dynamics. However, a lot of times bringing a young dog in can be very beneficial not just to you, but to the older dog as well. You just have to be very careful to pay lots of attention to the current dog as you introduce the younger one, and allow it to train the younger one (assuming you like your dog's habits; if you don't, it's better to wait). The existing dog will almost surely be the Alpha dog to the other one, and have strong ownership of the family members. You'll have to get through a short period of jealousy and challenge, but the older dog will likely have a renaissance if it accepts the other dog as a friend, and welcome the companionship. I'm sure he/she misses the other one terribly, unless they fought a lot.

The younger dog will learn to be housebroken/family ways/boundaries much faster, because the older dog will teach it a lot (good and bad).

I know some hookers who are really angry ... little more time, little more booze,,, little more drugs..he would have passed out and they would have searched his room, removed the Bellagio wrappers, divvied up the proceeds and quietly melted away into the night.

Robber had no "forward thinking". Used a BB gun? And then wants to "party" with hookers...they would probably have wound up killing him to keep him silent.

So some tourist blows into town, robs Bellagio on a drunken whim, dials in a cluster of whores and buys them a bunch of expensive baubles at Caesars Palace Forum shops in exchange for banging and partying with him.

Sounds like just another conventioner out partying after leaving the battle axe back home for a couple days.

He may have been brilliant.

He got a trip to Vegas while leaving the "Old Lady" at home. He went shopping, banged four hookers, and now gets free room and board for eight years and no longer has to listen to the "Old Lady" bitch everyday.

Just drove from Reno to Tacoma Washington non stop. Although, does stopping for gas because you have no choice considered "non-stop"?

I made a bonehead move and drove through Winnemuca because I stopped for a 3 hour nap at Reno from Las Vegas and trusted my GPS. Added 2 hours to my ride. 13 hours later I am in Washington state. By the time I got to an hour away I ran into Friday early out traffic.

I once (actually, several times..) tried making a peanut butter & jelly sandwich, as a kid. We were always out of bread, but always had (flour) tortillas, so I figured there couldn't be much of a difference between tortillas and bread.

A peanut butter & jelly taco is disgusting.

Tried some that was a roll of a green leaf of some kind containing rice and a small bit of raw tuna. It was OK, but it didn't seem like really eating raw fish, as the rice really dominated.

Part of the reason I don't make sushi is that it takes practice, the fish has to be excellent quality and I would rather pay for sushi than learn the skill. I would be afraid of poisoning my wife.

One test I am going to do someday is the super rare tuna on the grill.

You get a good sized chunk of good tuna, a real hot grill, and you sear it all around and take it off, inside still rare. I generally cook or order tuna 'medium' now.

Maybe this talk will prompt me. I figure if I like this actually unappealing-to-me thing, I might try more Sushi.

So, don't eat rolls? You can always get nigiri, and, if you really just want the fish, sashimi.

Also, some places (generally cheaper places) will put a lot of rice and very little fish into their rolls, for obvious reasons. So, eat at more expensive places :)

some places (generally cheaper places) will put a lot of rice and very little fish into their rolls, for obvious reasons. So...

I think it was me wanting to reduce the fish portion. Gotta do the grilled tuna thing first

My point is, if the rice is dominating, then eat something with less rice :)

I like the raw fish taste, but, for most fish, it is a very subtle flavor, so I completely see your point.

You could also eat more flavorful stuff. Uni is one of my favorites (it has absolutely no shelf life though, so eat it at a place where you know it will be fresh. Places that are very busy and pricy are good choices, particularly those places that tend to start running out of stuff at the end of the night)

I was actually wondering about cost as well. Right now I am buying the basic roll at the super market for $5.00 a small roll. It is really good, they even have a Japanese person on site making it. I would think I could make it at home for much less than that but maybe I am wrong. Generally the only place I get sushi is at chinese buffets.

Funny story. They always look for Asians preferably. The lady at the supermarket here said so a few years ago. Straight to my face she says white people are lazy and don't want to work. I don't see why the image is so important when those products are normally just sitting there selling themselves. Maybe they think whitey will figure out they can make their own as easily as making a sandwich or they'll reveal the ancient chinese secret.

I'm not actually convinced the products sold are actually raw fish either.

So I decided to waste some money at Mississippi stud today. They now have a progressive for $1 that is linked to a bunch of games. Right now a royal pays 112k. Straight flush pays 10%. I was playing it every hand and then I ran out of $1 chips. I decided to not get more. First hand that I played I was dealt 89S. 1st street 10s, 2nd 6s. I was about to cry. I would be so sad to lose out on 12k. The dealer was thinking I played it since I was the entire time. He slowly turned over the last card and it was a 7c. I almost had a heart attack, then realized I hit the straight. No point to the story, just thought I would share.

Reminds me of me trying Caribbean Stud the first time when I was 21. I didn't play the side bet because the jackpot was a joke at $30k (I don't think I've ever seen a lower jackpot since). 2nd hand. 4 to a Royal...made a flush. Dealer doesn't qualify, I win $5 in the main game. Out $50 on the side bet. But at least it wasn't the royal.

I spent about $40 today on sushi ingredients. Here is my first attempt. I forgot to put sesame seeds on my rice. I also made the orange spicy sauce to put on top but I didn't do that yet. It was pretty tough to do. I made 6 rolls so far today. I am trying to perfect it but I might get full before I get to that point. BTW, this is a california roll.

I'm convinced "sushi" is Japanese for "ruining perfectly good rice." ;)

For rolling practice, we used to do just seasoned rice & nori. Still pretty tasty, but very ricey.

Adding cucumbers and carrots, and occasionally eggs was the next step.

I've never been particularly fond of the rice-on-the-outside rolls. Still, on a scale of 1 to 10... I'd eat 'em. ;)
May the cards fall in your favor.
